Abstract

A downhole tool having a mandrel, a first conical member, and a fingered member. The fingered member is proximate to the first conical member. The fingered member includes a circular body; a plurality of fingers extending from the circular body; and a recessed region formed in the circular body. The downhole tool has a cone insert disposed in the recessed region.

Claims (108)

1. A downhole tool comprising:

wherein the insert comprises a circular insert body, a first end, a second end, and a groove in the circular insert body between the first end and the second end.

3. The downhole tool of claim 2 , the downhole tool further comprising:

a first slip;

a second slip;

a bearing plate;

a second conical member;

a sealing element; and

a lower sleeve engaged with the mandrel,

wherein the groove is helically wound.

4. The downhole tool of claim 1 , the downhole tool further comprising:

a first slip;

a second slip;

a bearing plate;

a second conical member;

a sealing element; and

a lower sleeve threadingly engaged with the mandrel.

5. The downhole tool of claim 4 , wherein one or more components of the downhole tool are made from a material comprising one or more of filament wound material, fiberglass cloth wound material, and molded fiberglass composite.

6. The downhole tool of claim 1 , wherein one or more ends of the plurality of fingers comprises an outer tapered surface.

7. The downhole tool of claim 1 , the downhole tool further comprising:

a metal slip disposed around the mandrel, the metal slip comprising:

a one-piece circular slip body; and

a lateral face surface comprising a set of mating holes; and

a lower sleeve threadingly engaged with a distal end of the mandrel, the lower sleeve further comprising a set of stabilizer pins configured to respectively engage the set of mating holes.

8. A downhole tool comprising:

a mandrel;

a first conical member disposed around the mandrel; and

a fingered member also disposed around the mandrel, and proximate to the first conical member, the fingered member further comprising:

a circular body;

a plurality of fingers extending from the circular body;

a recessed region formed in the circular body; and

a void formed between respective fingers; and

a cone ring disposed in the recessed region, the cone ring further comprising a linear cone ring surface generally continuous to a body taper surface of the fingered member.

9. The downhole tool of claim 8 , the downhole tool further comprising:

an insert positioned proximate to the fingered member and the first conical member,

wherein the insert comprises a circular insert body, a first end, a second end, and a groove formed in the circular insert body between the first end and the second end, and

wherein the mandrel is made of a composite material.

10. The downhole tool of claim 9 , the tool further comprising:

a first slip;

a second slip;

a bearing plate;

a second conical member;

a sealing element; and

a lower sleeve threadingly engaged with the mandrel.

11. The downhole tool of claim 8 , the downhole tool further comprising:

a first slip;

a second slip;

a bearing plate;

a second conical member;

a sealing element; and

a lower sleeve engaged with the mandrel,

wherein the groove is helically wound.

12. The downhole tool of claim 8 , wherein one or more components of the tool are made from a material comprising one or more of filament wound material, fiberglass cloth wound material, and molded fiberglass composite, wherein the mandrel further comprises: a distal end having a first outer diameter; a proximate end having a second outer diameter; and an outer mandrel surface, and wherein the outer mandrel surface at the distal end is configured with a set of threads.

13. The downhole tool of claim 12 , the downhole tool further comprising:

a metal slip disposed around the mandrel, the metal slip comprising:

a one-piece circular slip body; and

a lateral face surface comprising a set of mating holes; and

a lower sleeve threadingly engaged with the distal end, the lower sleeve further comprising a set of stabilizer pins configured to respectively engage the set of mating holes.

14. The downhole tool of claim 8 , the downhole tool further comprising:

a metal slip disposed around the mandrel, the metal slip comprising:

a one-piece circular slip body; and

a lateral face surface comprising a set of mating holes; and

a lower sleeve engaged with a distal end of the mandrel, the lower sleeve further comprising a set of stabilizer pins configured to respectively engage the set of mating holes.

15. A downhole tool comprising:

a mandrel;

a first conical member disposed around the mandrel; and

a fingered member also disposed around the mandrel, and proximate to the first conical member, the fingered member further comprising:

a circular body;

a plurality of fingers extending from the circular body;

a recessed region formed in the circular body;

a void formed between respective fingers; and

a transition zone between the circular body and the plurality of fingers,

wherein the transition zone further comprises an inner surface and an outer surface, wherein the inner surface comprises a first inner groove, and wherein the outer surface comprises a first outer groove.
