Abstract

A digital intercom system includes a master station having hardware and software configured to allow duplex communication between a plurality of communication devices. The software runs a plurality of settings for directing communication between the communication devices. The master station is configured to modify the settings based on input entered into a browser based program run on an input/output (I/O) device by a user.

Claims (39)

1. A digital intercom system, comprising:

a master station having hardware and software configured to allow duplex communication between a plurality of communication devices, wherein: (i) the software runs a plurality of settings for directing communication between the communication devices, and (ii) the master station is configured to modify the settings based on input entered into a browser based program run on an input/output (I/O) device by a user; and

one or more wireless gateways, each wireless gateway hardwired to the master station and in wireless communication with at least one of the communication devices; wherein:

the settings include a plurality of channels for each communication device, the channels each having an option set defining parameters for dictating how the communication devices within the system will communicate.

2. The digital intercom system of claim 1 , wherein the master station comprises the I/O device.

3. The digital intercom system of claim 1 , wherein the master station comprises a port for selectively connecting the I/O device to the master station.

4. The digital intercom system of claim 1 , wherein:

the master station includes memory for storing the browser based program; and

the master station is configured to allow the I/O device to: download a copy of the settings from the memory; upload new modified settings from the I/O device; and store the new modified settings in the memory.

5. The digital intercom system of claim 4 , wherein the master station is configured to upload the browser based program to a server to allow the I/O device to modify the settings by accessing the browser based program from the server.

6. The digital intercom system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the communication devices includes a wired endpoint hardwired to the master station.

7. The digital intercom system of claim 6 , wherein each wired endpoint is further hardwired to a headset.

8. The digital intercom system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one communication device in wireless communication with a wireless gateway further comprises a headset hardwired to a belt station, the belt station forming a wireless connection between said communication device and said wireless gateway.

9. The digital intercom system of claim 8 , wherein:

the settings include a plurality of channels for each communication device, the channels each having an option set defining parameters for dictating how the communication devices within the system will communicate; and

the belt station includes a single soft button operable to cycle between channels associated with the communication device hardwired to said belt station.

10. The digital intercom system of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the communication devices provides an audio prompt when a user switches between channels.

11. The digital intercom system of claim 1 , wherein the parameters further dictate, for each communication device: which other communication devices said communication device will be in communication with; and when said communication device will send and receive audio to and from the other communication devices.

12. The digital intercom system of claim 11 , wherein each communication device includes at least one soft button operable to change between the channels.

13. The digital intercom system of claim 12 , wherein the soft buttons include a plurality of select buttons, activating one of the select buttons causing said communication device to switch from an active channel to a separate channel.

14. The digital intercom system of claim 13 , wherein the soft buttons include a switch button, activating the switch button causing a corresponding communication device to change the channels associated with each select button for said communication device.

15. The digital intercom system of claim 13 , wherein the switch button is a push to talk button, activating the push to talk (PTT) button allowing input audio from the device associated with said PTT button to be sent to at least one other communication device.

16. A digital intercom system comprising:

a master station having hardware and software configured to allow duplex communication between a plurality of communication devices, wherein: (i) the software runs a plurality of settings for directing communication between the communication devices, and (ii) the master station is configured to modify the settings based on input entered into a browser based program run on an input/output (I/O) device by a user; and

one or more wireless gateways, each wireless gateway hardwired to the master station and in wireless communication with at least one of the communication devices, the at least one communication device comprising a headset hardwired to a belt station, the belt station forming a wireless connection between the communication device and the wireless gateway; wherein:

the settings include a plurality of channels for each communication device, the channels each having an option set defining parameters for dictating how the communication devices within the system will communicate, and

the belt station includes a single soft button operable to cycle between channels associated with the communication device hardwired to said belt station.

17. The digital intercom system of claim 16 , wherein the master station comprises the I/O device.

18. The digital intercom system of claim 16 , wherein the master station comprises a port for selectively connecting the I/O device to the master station.

19. The digital intercom system of claim 16 , wherein:

the master station includes memory for storing the browser based program; and

the master station is configured to allow the I/O device to: download a copy of the settings from the memory; upload new modified settings from the I/O device; and store the new modified settings in the memory.

20. The digital intercom system of claim 19 , wherein the master station is configured to upload the browser based program to a server to allow the I/O device to modify the settings by accessing the browser based program from the server.

21. The digital intercom system of claim 16 , wherein at least one of the communication devices includes a wired endpoint hardwired to the master station.

22. The digital intercom system of claim 21 , wherein each wired endpoint is further hardwired to a headset.

23. The digital intercom system of claim 16 , wherein at least one of the communication devices provides an audio prompt when a user switches between channels.

24. A digital intercom system comprising:

a master station having hardware and software configured to allow duplex communication between a plurality of communication devices, wherein: (i) the software runs a plurality of settings for directing communication between the communication devices, and (ii) the master station is configured to modify the settings based on input entered into a browser based program run on an input/output (I/O) device by a user; wherein:

the settings include a plurality of channels for each communication device, the channels each having an option set defining parameters for dictating how the communication devices within the system will communicate.
