Abstract

An organic light emitting display device capable of having an electrostatic capacitive type touch panel function without substantially increasing the thickness of the display device and/or including a touch panel with an improved interface between a touch panel module of the touch panel and a touch panel drive integrated circuit (IC) of the touch panel.

Claims (42)

1. A touch unit comprising:

a first pattern layer comprising a plurality of first sensors and a plurality of second sensors, the plurality of first sensors being electrically connected to each other and parallel to each other along a first direction, the plurality of second sensors being electrically connected to each other and parallel to each other along a second direction crossing the first direction;

a first insulating layer on the first pattern layer;

a second pattern layer on the first insulating layer, the second pattern layer comprising a plurality of pattern units separated and spaced apart from each other, each of the plurality of pattern units being a single, integral structure and being connected to only two corresponding ones of the plurality of second sensors by penetrating the first insulating layer at a first one of the two corresponding ones of the plurality of second sensors and terminating on a surface of the first one of the plurality of second sensors contacting the first insulating layer, extending along the first insulating layer, and penetrating the first insulating layer at a second one of the two corresponding ones of the plurality of second sensors and terminating on a surface of the second one of the plurality of second sensors contacting the first insulating layer,

wherein the pattern units entirely fill the corresponding penetrations in the first insulating layer,

wherein a portion of the first insulating layer is disposed between at least two of the second sensors that are adjacent to each other from among the plurality of second sensors, and

wherein a portion of the plurality of second sensors and a portion of each of the pattern units penetrating the first insulating layer are inside the first insulating layer.

2. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first sensors and the plurality of second sensors are alternately disposed.

3. The touch unit of claim 1 , where each of the plurality of first sensors comprises a protrusion unit, and

wherein each of the plurality of second sensors comprises a protrusion unit, the protrusion unit of each of the plurality of first sensors being offset with respect to the protrusion unit of each of the plurality of second sensors.

4. The touch unit of claim 1 , further comprising a flexible PCB (printed circuit board) that is electrically connected to the plurality of first sensors and the plurality of second sensors.

5. The touch unit of claim 4 , further comprising a connector for transmitting electrical signals generated by the plurality of first sensors and the plurality of second sensors to the flexible PCB,

wherein the connector is electrically connected to the plurality of first sensors and the plurality of second sensors.

6. The touch unit of claim 4 , wherein the flexible PCB comprises a circuit configured to drive and control the touch unit.

7. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first sensors and the plurality of second sensors comprise indium tin oxide.

8. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first sensors and the plurality of second sensors are configured to generate electrical signals in response to a touch.

9. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of first sensors comprises a first diamond-shaped pad, and

wherein each of the plurality of second sensors comprises a second diamond-shaped pad adjacent to the first diamond-shaped pads.

10. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the first direction is perpendicular to the second direction.

11. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the touch unit is an electrostatic capacitive touch unit.

12. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the first insulating layer comprises a plurality of contact openings, and

wherein the plurality of pattern units are electrically connected to the plurality of second sensors via the plurality of contact openings.

13. The touch unit of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of first sensors comprises a first diamond-shaped pad,

wherein each of the plurality of second sensors comprises a second diamond-shaped pad adjacent to the first diamond-shaped pads,

wherein the plurality of contact openings are arranged to correspond to horizontally opposite corners of the second diamond-shaped pads, and

wherein neighboring ones of the plurality of second sensors are connected to each other.

14. The touch unit of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of pattern units fill the plurality of contact openings and electrically connect adjacent ones of the plurality of second sensors to each other on the first insulating layer.

15. The touch unit of claim 12 , wherein each of the contact openings is open to a corresponding one of the plurality of second sensors, and

wherein each of the plurality of pattern units contacts two corresponding ones of the plurality of contact openings.

16. The touch unit of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of pattern units comprises:

a main portion on the first insulating layer;

a first fill portion in a corresponding one of the plurality of contact openings; and

a second fill portion in another corresponding one of the plurality of contact openings.

17. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of pattern units are separated from each another on the first insulating layer.

18. The touch unit of claim 1 , wherein the pattern units have solid contacts formed at portions where the pattern units penetrate the first insulating layer.

19. The touch unit of claim 1 , further comprising a second insulating layer on the second pattern layer.

20. A touch unit comprising:

a first pattern layer comprising a plurality of first sensors and a plurality of second sensors, the plurality of first sensors being electrically connected to each other and parallel to each other along a first direction, the plurality of second sensors being electrically connected to each other and parallel to each other along a second direction crossing the first direction;

a first insulating layer on the first pattern layer;

a second pattern layer on the first insulating layer, the second pattern layer comprising a plurality of pattern units separated and spaced apart from each other, each of the plurality of pattern units being a single, integral structure and being connected to only two corresponding ones of the plurality of second sensors by penetrating the first insulating layer at a first one of the two corresponding ones of the plurality of second sensors and terminating at a surface of the first one of the plurality of second sensors contacting the first insulating layer, extending along the first insulating layer, and penetrating the first insulating layer at a second one of the two corresponding ones of the plurality of second sensors and terminating at a surface of the second one of the plurality of second sensors contacting the first insulating layer, and

wherein the pattern units entirely fill the corresponding penetrations in the first insulating layer, and

wherein a portion of the plurality of second sensors and a portion of each of the pattern units penetrating the first insulating layer are inside the first insulating layer.
