Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of thiosulfate to potentiate the anti-pathogenic effect of lactobacilli bacteria, the thiosulfate being in a quantity of at least 100 mg for 10 7 to 10 10 CFU of lactobacilli. The invention also relates to a pharmaceutical composition including at least 100 mg of thiosulfate per gram, in combination with a Lactobacillus crispatus strain, and to its use in the treatment of urogenital infections such as vaginosis, candidosis and urinary tract infections.

Claims (6)

1. A method for treating a urogenital infection in a patient in need thereof, comprising vaginally administering a composition of lyophilized mixture of Lactobacillus rhamnosus Lcr35 and thiosulfate to the patient, wherein the composition comprises from 10 7 to 10 10 CFU/g of Lactobacillus rhamnosus Lcr35 and thiosulfate, wherein the thiosulfate is present in an amount of at least 100 mg/gram of the lyophilized mixture, and wherein the pathogenic organism associated with the urogenital infection is a yeast of the genus Candida.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the thiosulfate is selected from the group consisting of sodium thiosulfate and potassium thiosulfate.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises thiosulfate amounting to about 230 mg/gram of the lyophilized mixture.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the urogenital infection is selected from the group consisting of candidosis, and urinary tract infection.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises an agent selected from the group consisting of hormone, anti-inflammatory agent, bactericidal agent, antifungal agent, and a combination thereof.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lyophilized mixture comprises fructooligosaccharide (FOS).
