Abstract

A power management system for a lighting circuit may include a grid shifting controller that includes a processor and a connection to an external power source. The power management system may also include a communication interface associated with the grid shifting controller. The grid shifting controller may be configured to provide control information to a processor of at least one grid shifting electrical fixture over the communication interface, the control information being configured to direct the at least one grid shifting electrical fixture on the use of power from the external power source and an energy storage device associated with the at least one grid shifting electrical fixture.

Claims (55)

1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium (CRM) of a computing device storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:

receiving an input;

after receiving the input, sending a signal to a communication device, the signal representing a command to activate a camera of the communication device;

receiving, from the communication device, image data representing one or more images captured within a field of view of the camera;

displaying, on a display, the one or more images;

receiving, from the communication device, audio data representing sound; and

outputting the sound using a speaker.

2. The non-transitory CRM of claim 1 , storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to perform further operations comprising:

displaying, on the display, an icon,

wherein receiving the input comprises receiving a selection of the icon.

3. The non-transitory CRM of claim 1 , storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to perform further operations comprising:

generating, using a microphone, additional audio data representing additional sound; and

sending, to the communication device, the additional audio data representing the additional sound.

4. The non-transitory CRM of claim 1 , storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to perform further operations comprising:

receiving an additional input; and

after receiving the additional input, sending an additional signal to the communication device, the additional signal representing an additional command to activate a light source of the communication device.

5. The non-transitory CRM of claim 1 , storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to perform further operations comprising receiving, from the communication device, an additional signal indicating that motion was detected by the communication device.

6. The non-transitory CRM of claim 1 , storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to perform further operations comprising:

receiving an additional input;

after receiving the additional input, sending an additional signal to the communication device, the additional signal representing an additional command to deactivate the camera of the communication device.

7. The non-transitory CRM of claim 1 , wherein at least one of sending the signal, receiving the image data, or receiving the audio data is via one or more computing devices.

8. A communication device comprising:

a wireless communication interface;

a camera;

a microphone;

a motion sensor;

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform operations comprising:

receiving, using the wireless communication interface, a first signal from a client device;

after receiving the first signal, generating, using the camera, image data representing one or more images;

sending, using the wireless communication interface, the image data to the client device;

generating, using the microphone, audio data representing sound;

sending, using the wireless communication interface, the audio data to the client device;

detecting motion using the motion sensor; and

sending, using the wireless communication interface, a second signal to the client device, the second signal indicating that the motion was detected.

9. The communication device of claim 8 , wherein the motion sensor comprises a passive infrared (PIR) sensor.

10. The communication device of claim 8 , further comprising a speaker, and wherein the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media store further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising:

receiving, using the wireless communication interface, additional audio data from the client device, the additional audio data representing additional sound, and

outputting, using the speaker, the additional sound represented by the additional audio data.

11. The communication device of claim 8 , wherein the communication device is configured to be located outside a house, and wherein the client device is configured to be located remotely relative to the house.

12. The communication device of claim 8 , further comprising a light source, and wherein the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media store further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising:

receiving an additional signal from the client device; and

after receiving the additional signal, activating the light source.

13. The communication device of claim 12 , wherein the light source comprises an infrared (IR) light source.

14. The communication device of claim 8 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising:

after detecting the motion, generating, using the camera, additional image data representing one or more additional images; and

sending, using the wireless communication interface, the additional image data to the client device.

The communication device of claim 8 , further comprising a light source, and wherein the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media store further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising, after receiving the first signal, activating the light source.

The communication device of claim 8 , further comprising a light source, and wherein the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media store further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising, after detecting the motion, activating the light source.

The communication device of claim 8 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising sending, using the wireless communication interface, a third signal to an additional communication device, the third signal representing a command to activate a light source.

18. The communication device of claim 8 , wherein the first signal represents a command to activate the camera.

19. The communication device of claim 8 , the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the communication device to perform further operations comprising:

receiving, using the wireless communication interface, a third signal from the client device; and

after receiving the third signal, ceasing from generating the image data.

20. The communication device of claim 8 , wherein at least one of receiving of the first signal, sending the image data, sending the audio data, or sending the second signal is via one or more computing devices.
