Abstract

Provided are compositions comprising beta-alanylhistidine peptides and/or beta-alanines, and methods for administering these peptides and amino acids. In one aspect, the compositions and methods cause an increase in the blood plasma concentrations of beta-alanine and/or creatine.

Claims (46)

1. An improved method of delaying the onset of muscle fatigue in a human supplementing in a 24 hour period over a period of time with a human dietary supplement comprising beta-alanine that is not part of a dipeptide, oligopeptide or polypeptide in an amount sufficient to increase beta-alanylhistidine synthesis in the muscle, wherein the improved method comprises increasing the amount of beta-alanine in the dietary supplement ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time,

wherein an increased amount is provided at a first increased amount for a first period of time and then is provided at a second increased amount for a second period of time, and

wherein the ingested amount in the 24 hour period is ingested in one serving in the 24 hour period or in multiple servings at different times during the 24 hour period, and

wherein the period of time includes more than two 24 hour periods.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased daily.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased every other day.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased weekly.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased every other week.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased every day that the human participates in physical activity.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.1 g increments.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.2 g increments.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.3 g increments.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.4 g increments.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.5 g increments.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.6 g increments.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.7 g increments.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.8 g increments.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 0.9 g increments.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased in 1.0 g increments.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is increased to a maximum of 16 g.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the period of time is from 3 days to 8 weeks.

19. The method of claim 18 , where the period of time is from 5 days to 6 weeks.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the period of time is from 1 week to 4 weeks.

21. The method of claim 1 , wherein the improvement further comprises ingesting an amount of L-histidine to prevent loss of muscle histidine.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the amount of L-histidine is 0.1 g to 16 g.

23. The method of claim 1 , wherein the improvement further comprises decreasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time following increasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased daily.

25. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased every other day.

26. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased weekly.

27. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased every other week.

28. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased every day that the human participates in physical activity.

29. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.1 g increments.

30. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.2 g increments.

31. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.3 g increments.

32. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.4 g increments.

33. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.5 g increments.

34. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.6 g increments.

35. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.7 g increments.

36. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.8 g increments.

37. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 0.9 g increments.

38. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased in 1.0 g increments.

39. The method of claim 23 , wherein the amount of beta-alanine ingested is decreased to a minimum of 1.0 g.

40. The method of claim 23 , wherein the decreasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time is from 3 days to 8 weeks.

41. The method of claim 40 , where the decreasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time is from 5 days to 6 weeks.

42. The method of claim 41 , wherein the decreasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time is from 1 week to 4 weeks.

43. The method of claim 23 , wherein the improvement further comprises increasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period for a period of time following decreasing the amount of beta-alanine ingested in a 24 hour period.
