Abstract

A mirror assembly can include a housing, a mirror, and a light source. In certain embodiments, the mirror is rotatable within a support portion of the mirror assembly. In some embodiments, the mirror assembly includes a light pipe configured to emit a substantially constant amount of light along a periphery of the mirror. In some embodiments, the mirror assembly includes a sensor assembly. The sensor assembly can be configured to adjust the amount of emitted light based on the position of a user in relation to the mirror.

Claims (71)

1. A mirror assembly comprising:

a front side and a back side;

a housing portion;

a support portion coupled to the housing portion;

a mirror head comprising a first side and a second side, the mirror head coupled to the support portion via a swivel joint;

wherein the first side of the mirror head comprises a first mirror and the second side of the mirror head comprises a second mirror;

wherein the support portion is positioned around at least a portion of a periphery of the mirror head;

wherein the swivel joint allows rotation of the mirror head about an axis formed by the swivel joint;

wherein the first mirror and the second mirror can separately be viewed from the front side of the mirror assembly by rotating the mirror head about the axis of the swivel joint;

wherein, when the first mirror is facing the front side of the mirror assembly, the second mirror is directed toward the back side of the mirror assembly;

wherein, when the second mirror is facing the front side of the mirror assembly, the first mirror is directed toward the back side of the mirror assembly;

a light source;

a light path having a length and being positioned around at least a portion of a periphery of the first mirror when the first mirror is facing the front side of the mirror assembly; and

an actuator configured to move the mirror head about the axis of the swivel joint without requiring a user to touch the first side or the second side of the mirror head.

2. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first mirror and the second mirror are magnifying mirrors and the first mirror and the second mirror have different magnification powers.

3. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first mirror has at least a 5× magnification power.

4. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second mirror has essentially no magnification power.

5. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a third mirror disposed on the second side of the mirror head.

6. The mirror assembly of claim 5 , wherein the second mirror and the third mirror have respective focal points that are generally coincident.

7. The mirror assembly of claim 6 , wherein a user can focus on a body part by simply looking from the second mirror to the third mirror, or vice versa, without having to reposition the body to bring the body part back into focus.

8. The mirror assembly of claim 5 , wherein one or both the second mirror and the third mirror are magnifying mirrors and have different magnification powers.

9. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the light path is disposed on the support portion such that when the second mirror is facing the front side of the mirror, the light path is positioned around at least a portion of the periphery of the second mirror.

10. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator is a handle that can be used to move the mirror head about the axis of the swivel joint.

11. The mirror assembly of claim 10 , wherein the handle engages the support portion via a first bay when the first mirror is facing the frontside of the mirror assembly and via a second bay when the second mirror is facing the frontside of the mirror assembly.

12. The mirror assembly of claim 10 , wherein the handle abuts the support portion preventing 360° rotation of the mirror head about the swivel joint axis within the support.

13. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , further comprising an information display, wherein the actuator is configured to activate the display.

14. The mirror assembly of claim 13 , wherein the display is configured to display a clock, an event, an advertisement block, a text message panel, an email panel, and/or traffic conditions.

15. The mirror assembly of claim 13 , wherein the display is located behind a portion of a mirror surface and is configured to become visible to the user upon illumination.

16. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator is a capacitive touch sensor.

17. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator is located along the periphery of the mirror head.

18. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator is configured to be activated by gesturing near the mirror head.

19. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator is a physical button.

20. The mirror assembly of claim 1 , wherein the actuator is a physical dial.

21. A mirror assembly comprising:

a housing portion;

a mirror head coupled to the housing portion, the mirror head comprising a first side with a first mirror and a second mirror;

wherein a user can focus on a body part by simply looking from the first mirror to the second mirror, or vice versa, without having to reposition the body to bring the body part back into focus;

a light source; and

a light path having a length and being positioned around at least a portion of a periphery of the first mirror.

22. The mirror assembly of claim 21 , further comprising a support portion, the mirror head being coupled to the support portion via a swivel joint and the support portion being coupled to the housing portion;

wherein the support portion is positioned around at least a portion of a periphery of the mirror head;

wherein the mirror head further comprises a second side comprising a third mirror;

wherein the swivel joint allows rotation of the mirror head about an axis formed by the swivel joint; and

wherein the first mirror and the third mirror can separately be viewed from a front side of the mirror assembly by rotating the mirror head about the axis of the swivel joint within the support portion.

23. A mirror assembly comprising:

a housing portion;

a mirror head comprising a first side, the mirror head being coupled to the housing portion;

wherein the first side of the mirror head comprises a first mirror and a second mirror separated by a seam and at least one of the first mirror and the second mirror are magnifying mirrors;

wherein the first mirror and the second mirror have different magnification powers;

wherein the first mirror and second mirror are positioned with respect to each other in such a way that, as a point on a reflected image of a moving object is moved along a pathway from a first position where the object's reflection is present in the first mirror to a second position where the object's reflection is present in the second mirror, the pathway of the point on the reflected image of the object is substantially uninterrupted as the point crosses the seam;
