Abstract

The present embodiments relate to systems and methods for using a blockchain to record information related to processes and services in the vehicle industry. The systems and methods may include (1) receiving an indication that an insurance claim has been filed and/or information detailing the insurance claim; (2) identifying and accessing a loss history blockchain associated with the individual or the insured asset; (3) updating a block to reflect or indicate the insurance claim and/or information detailing the insurance claim; and/or (4) adding the block to the loss history blockchain to facilitate maintaining up-to-date the loss history blockchain detailing the loss history associated with the individual or the insured asset.

Claims (46)

1 . A computer-implemented method of utilizing blockchain technology to record loss history for an individual or an insured asset, the method comprising:

receiving, via one or more processors and/or associated transceivers, an indication that an insurance claim has been filed and information detailing the insurance claim, wherein the information detailing the insurance claim includes a photograph;

hashing, via the one or more processors, the photograph;

identifying and accessing, via the one or more processors, a loss history blockchain associated with the individual or the insured asset to identify a loss record corresponding to the individual or the insured asset, wherein the loss history blockchain is identified and accessed using an asset identifier that is a home tax parcel number, and wherein the accessing the loss history blockchain includes searching the loss history blockchain for a block which includes the asset identifier;

determining, via the one or more processors, that the asset identifier is not stored at a block of the loss history blockchain;

in response to the determination that the asset identifier is not stored at a block of the loss history blockchain: (i) generating, via the one or more processors, a claim record using the asset identifier, and (ii) adding, via the one or more processors, the asset identifier and the indication of the insurance claim to a transaction;

adding, via the one or more processors, the hash of the photograph to the transaction;

updating, via the one or more processors, a block to include the transaction; and

adding, via the one or more processors, the block to the loss history blockchain to facilitate maintaining up-to-date the loss history blockchain detailing the loss history associated with the individual or the insured asset.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein adding the block to the loss history blockchain includes:

forming, via the one or more processors, a consensus on the block with the plurality of nodes of the blockchain.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein updating the block includes:

creating, via the one or more processors, the block to be added to the loss history blockchain.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein updating the block includes:

adding, at a memory, the transaction using or including the information detailing the insurance claim to the block.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the loss history blockchain is identified and accessed using an individual identifier.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the individual identifier is a social security number, a name, or an insurance policy number.

7 - 8 . (canceled)

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the information detailing the insurance claim includes information identifying the insured, the insured asset, a policy number, an insurance provider, or an amount of damage.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

solving, via the one or more processors, a cryptographic puzzle corresponding to the block; and

adding, via the one or more processors, the solution to the cryptographic puzzle to the block.

11 . A system for utilizing blockchain technology to record loss history for an individual or an insured asset, the system comprising:

a network interface configured to interface with a processor;

a memory configured to store non-transitory computer executable instructions and configured to interface with the processor; and

the processor configured to interface with the memory, wherein the processor is configured to execute the non-transitory computer executable instructions to cause the system to:

receive an indication that an insurance claim has been filed and information detailing the insurance claim, wherein the information detailing the insurance claim includes a photograph;

hash the photograph;

identify and access a loss history blockchain associated with the individual or the insured asset to identify a loss record corresponding to the individual or the insured asset, wherein the loss history blockchain is identified and accessed using an asset identifier that is a home tax parcel number, and wherein the access of the loss history blockchain includes searching the loss history blockchain for a block which includes the asset identifier;

if the asset identifier is not stored at a block of the loss history blockchain: (i) generate a claim record using the asset identifier, and (ii) add the asset identifier and the indication of the insurance claim to a transaction;

add the indication of the insurance claim and the hash of the photograph to the transaction;

updating a block to include the transaction; and

add the block to the loss history blockchain to facilitate maintaining up-to-date the loss history blockchain detailing the loss history associated with the individual or the insured asset.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein to add the block to the loss history blockchain, the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:

form a consensus on the block with the plurality of nodes of the blockchain.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein to update the block, the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:

create the block to be added to the loss history blockchain.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein to update the block, the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:

add the transaction using or including the information detailing the insurance claim to the block.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the loss history blockchain is identified and accessed using an individual identifier.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the individual identifier is a social security number, a name, or an insurance policy number.

17 - 18 . (canceled)

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the information detailing the insurance claim includes information identifying the insured, the insured asset, a policy number, an insurance provider, or an amount of damage.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:

solve a cryptographic puzzle corresponding to the block; and

add the solution to the cryptographic puzzle to the block.
