Abstract

Media content search results ranked by popularity is described. In embodiment(s), a search request for television media content can be initiated by a viewer, and television media content that is relevant to the search request can be identified. The relevant television media content can then be ranked based on a popularity rating and the relevant television media content can be displayed in an ordered list that is ordered by popularity rankings.

extracting, from descriptive metadata of a database entry of the second plurality of database entries, an indication of a title of a series of media assets associated with the respective media asset of the database entry; and

identifying at least a partial match between the title of the series of media assets and the title of the series of media assets indicated by the user interaction metadata associated with the first request.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the first subset of the first plurality of database entries comprises:

determining, for each of the first plurality of database entries, whether the descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset contains the keyword; and

based on determining that the descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset contains the keyword, adding the respective database entry to the first subset.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the second subset of the second plurality of database entries comprises:

determining, for each of the second plurality of database entries, whether the descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset contains the keyword; and

based on determining that the descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset contains the keyword, adding the respective database entry to the subset.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selection of the first media asset comprises at least one of: a user selection for viewing the media asset, a user selection for recording the media asset, or a user request for further information about the media asset.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the descriptive metadata comprises at least one of: a title, an identification of actors, a genre, a description of a media asset, and ratings information.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating for display the ranked list of media assets; and

inserting, at a position in the ranked list, an indication for a media asset that is not indicated in the subset of database entries.

11. A system for customizing search results for a user, the system comprising:

hardware processing circuitry configured to:

receive, from a user, a first request to search for media assets, the first request comprising a keyword;

based on receiving the first request:

retrieve, from storage circuitry, a first data structure comprising a first plurality of database entries each corresponding to a respective media asset, wherein each database entry comprises descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset;

compare, using control circuitry, the keyword to the descriptive metadata associated with each of the first plurality of database entries;

identify, based on the comparing, a first subset of the first plurality of database entries that are associated with the descriptive metadata that includes the keyword, wherein the first subset of the database entries comprises a database entry for a first media asset; and

store, in user interaction metadata, the first request;
