Abstract

Metal organic framework compositions can have a face centered cubic structure.

Claims (19)

1. A metal-organic framework composition, comprising:

a plurality of hexanuclear clusters including one or more rare earth metal ions, wherein at least one hexanuclear cluster associates with twelve hexanuclear clusters to form a metal-organic framework; wherein the hexanuclear clusters are associated by bidentate ligands; wherein the bidentate ligands include one or more of carboxylates, trizolates, tetrazolates, pyrazolates, and fluoros.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rare-earth metal ions include one or more of cerium, dysprosium, erbium, europium, gadolinium, holmium, lanthanum, lutetium, neodymium, praseodymium, promethium, samarium, scandium, terbium, thulium, ytterbium, and yttrium.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the bidentate ligands include one or more of 2-fluoro-4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoate (FTZB), 4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoate (TZB), 3-fluoro-4′-(2H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylate (FTZBP), 3-fluorobiphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxylate (FBPDC), and 3,3′-difluorobiphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxylate (DFBPDC).

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the metal-organic framework is characterized by a fcu topology.

5. A metal-organic framework composition, comprising:

a plurality of hexanuclear clusters that associate via bidentate ligands to form a metal-organic framework, wherein each of the hexanuclear clusters include one or more rare earth metal ions, wherein the bidentate ligands include one or more of carboxylates, tetrazolates, triazolates, pyrazolates, and fluoros.

6. The composition of claim 5 , wherein each of the hexanuclear clusters include twelve sites for ligand attachment to other hexanuclear clusters.

7. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the rare earth metal ions include one or more of cerium, dysprosium, erbium, europium, gadolinium, holmium, lanthanum, lutetium, neodymium, praseodymium, promethium, samarium, scandium, terbium, thulium, ytterbium, and yttrium.

8. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the bidentate ligands include one or more of 2-fluoro-4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoate (FTZB), 4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoate (TZB), 3-fluoro-4′-(2H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylate (FTZBP), 3-fluorobiphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxylate (FBPDC), and 3,3′-difluorobiphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxylate (DFBPDC).

9. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the metal-organic framework is characterized by a face-centered cubic topology.

10. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the carboxylates include dicarboxylates.

11. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the trizolates include ditrizolates.

12. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the tetrazolates include ditetrazolates.

13. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the pyrazolates include dipyrazolates.

14. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the carboxylates include dicarboxylates.

15. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the trizolates include ditrizolates.

16. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the tetrazolates include ditetrazolates.

17. The composition of claim 5 , wherein the pyrazolates include dipyrazolates.
