Probiotic bifidobacterium strain
Probiotic Bifidobacterium strain AH1714 is significantly immunomodulatory following oral consumption. The strain is useful as an immunomodulatory biotherapeutic agent.
1. A formulation for oral administration to a subject, the formulation comprising isolated strain Bifidobacterium longum deposited with NCIMB under accession number NCIMB 41676, wherein the Bifidobacterium longum strain is in the form of a powder.
2. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the formulation is in the form of a capsule, a tablet, or a sachet.
3. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the formulation comprises an ingestible carrier.
4. The formulation of claim 3 , wherein the ingestible carrier comprises a dairy product.
5. The formulation of claim 3 , wherein the ingestible carrier comprises a dressing or a beverage.
6. The formulation of claim 3 , wherein the ingestible carrier comprises acidified milk, yoghurt, frozen yoghurt, milk powder, milk concentrate, or cheese.
7. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the Bifidobacterium longum strain is in the form of viable cells, non-viable cells, or a mixture thereof.
8. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the powder is a freeze-dried powder.
9. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the formulation comprises more than 10 6 cfu per gram of the Bifidobacterium longum strain.
10. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the Bifidobacterium longum strain is a first probiotic material and the formulation further comprises a second probiotic material, a prebiotic material, an adjuvant, a biological compound, a drug, or a combination thereof.
11. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the formulation further comprises a protein, a peptide, a lipid, a carbohydrate, a vitamin, a mineral, a trace element, or a combination thereof.
12. A foodstuff comprising the formulation of claim 1 .
