Abstract

Disclosed systems, methods, and devices may include a system for removing a kidney stone from a ureter. The system may have an inner shaft extending coaxially within an outer shaft, a stone retention member shaft having a stone retention member and extending coaxially within the inner shaft, a wall protection member coupled to the outer shaft and the inner shaft, and a handle coupled with proximal ends of the outer shaft, the inner shaft, and the stone retention member shaft. The handle may include an eversion mechanism coupled to the inner shaft and configured to actuate the inner shaft, thereby everting the wall protection member to form a pocket adapted to receive a kidney stone. The system may also include a retention member mechanism coupled to the stone retention member shaft and configured to actuate the stone retention member shaft.

Claims (27)

1. A device for removing a kidney stone from a ureter, the device comprising:

an outer shaft

an inner shaft extending coaxially within the outer shaft;

a stone retention member shaft having a stone retention member at a distal end and extending coaxially within the inner shaft;

a wall protection member having a first end coupled to the outer shaft and a second end coupled to the inner shaft; and

a handle coupled with proximal ends of the outer shaft, the inner shaft, and the stone retention member shaft, the handle comprising:

an eversion slider coupled to the inner shaft and configured to move the inner shaft back and forth, wherein retracting the eversion slider everts the wall protection member around the kidney stone; and

a retention member slider coupled to the stone retention member shaft and configured to move the stone retention member shaft back and forth, wherein retracting the retention member slider traps the kidney stone in the stone retention member,

wherein the eversion slider and the retention member slider are coupled by a friction fit, such that when the eversion slider is moved proximally, the retention member slider moves proximally so that it does not move relative to the inner shaft.

2. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a guide wire extending coaxially within the stone retention member shaft.

3. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a laser fiber extending coaxially within the stone retention member shaft.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wall protection member comprises an expandable balloon and the handle further comprises a balloon infusion port configured to expand the balloon.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wall protection member is coupled to the inner shaft at an attachment point located on an outer circumference of the inner shaft, the attachment point proximally spaced from a distal tip of the inner shaft.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the eversion slider is coupled with the retention member slider via a friction fit adapted to resist movement of one of the inner shaft or the stone retention member shaft when the other of the inner shaft or the stone retention member shaft is actuated.

7. A device for removing a kidney stone from a ureter, the device comprising:

an outer shaft

an inner shaft extending coaxially within the outer shaft;

a stone retention member shaft having a stone retention member at a distal end and extending coaxially within the inner shaft, the stone retention member configured to capture a kidney stone;

a wall protection member coupled to the outer shaft and the inner shaft; and

a handle coupled with proximal ends of the outer shaft, the inner shaft, and the stone retention member shaft, the handle comprising a retention member slider coupled to the stone retention member shaft and configured to move the stone retention member shaft back and forth,

wherein the retention member slider is coupled with an eversion gasket inside the handle via a friction fit, such that when the retention member slider is moved proximally along the handle, the eversion gasket moves the inner shaft to evert the wall protection member.

8. The system device of claim 7 , wherein the stone retention member shaft comprises a solid shaft.

9. The device of claim 7 , wherein the system is configured to retract the stone retention member and evert the wall protection member using the retention member slider.

10. The device of claim 7 , wherein the wall protection member is coupled to the inner shaft at an attachment point located on an outer circumference of the inner shaft, the attachment point proximally spaced from a distal tip of the inner shaft.

11. The device of claim 7 , wherein the stone retention member shaft has sufficient axial stiffness to cause eversion of the wall protection member without the stone retention member shaft substantially stretching.

12. The device of claim 11 , wherein the stone retention member shaft comprises a stainless steel or nitinol wire having a diameter of at least 0.005″ or a stainless steel hypotube having a wall thickness of 0.002″.

13. The device of claim 7 , wherein the wall protection member is an expandable balloon and the handle further comprises a balloon infusion port configured to expand the balloon.
