Abstract

Various embodiments enable an application on a first device to log into an online meeting in association with a trusted entity, such as a trusted user. Once trust is established between the trusted entity and the meeting domain, such as an enterprise domain, permissions can be assigned to a meeting device, by virtue of the trust relationship with the trusted entity, to enable the meeting device to join the meeting as a participant, thus allowing the meeting device to bypass an initial join process such as a meeting lobby and the like. By virtue of the assigned permissions, the meeting device may take control of the meeting and control the experience for others in the meeting as a meeting organizer or some other permission-centric role.

Claims (35)

1 . A first computing device comprising:

at least one hardware processor;

a memory, comprising instructions, which when performed by the hardware processor, cause the first computing device to perform operations comprising:

joining an online meeting as an authenticated device hosted by a meeting service over a computer network;

establishing a control relationship with a second computing device;

sending admission information indicating that the first computing device has successfully established the control relationship with the second computing device and including a unique identifier for the second computing device; and

controlling, at the first computing device, an aspect of the online meeting associated with the second computing device based upon determining that the second computing device has successfully established the control relationship.

2 . The first computing device of claim 1 , wherein the operations of controlling at the first computing device an aspect of the online meeting associated with the second computing device comprises one of: muting, unmuting, changing volume, and disconnecting the second computing device from the online meeting.

3 . The first computing device of claim 1 , wherein the second computing device is a meeting room device.

4 . The first computing device of claim 1 , wherein the operations of establishing the control relationship comprises determining that the first and second computing devices are within a predetermined proximity.

5 . The first computing device of claim 1 , wherein the operations of establishing the control relationship comprises exchanging a secret value between the first and second computing devices.

6 . The first computing device of claim 5 , wherein the secret value is one of: a PIN, or a token data structure.

7 . The first computing device of claim 5 , wherein the operations of establishing the control relationship comprises verifying the secret value with the meeting service.

8 . A method comprising:

using at least one hardware processor of a first computing device:

joining an online meeting as an authenticated device hosted by a meeting service over a computer network;

establishing a control relationship with a second computing device;

sending admission information indicating that the first computing device has successfully established the control relationship with the second computing device and including a unique identifier for the second computing device; and

controlling, at the first computing device, an aspect of the online meeting associated with the second computing device based upon determining that the second computing device has successfully established the control relationship.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein controlling at the first computing device an aspect of the online meeting associated with the second computing device comprises one of: muting, unmuting, changing volume, and disconnecting the second computing device from the online meeting.

10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the second computing device is a meeting room device.

11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein establishing the control relationship comprises determining that the first and second computing devices are within a predetermined proximity.

12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein establishing the control relationship comprises exchanging a secret value between the first and second computing devices.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the secret value is one of: a PIN, or a token data structure.

14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein establishing the control relationship comprises verifying the secret value with the meeting service.

15 . A first computing device comprising:

means for joining an online meeting as an authenticated device hosted by a meeting service over a computer network;

means for establishing a control relationship with a second computing device;

means for sending admission information indicating that the first computing device has successfully established the control relationship with the second computing device and including a unique identifier for the second computing device; and

means for controlling, at the first computing device, an aspect of the online meeting associated with the second computing device based upon determining that the second computing device has successfully established the control relationship.

16 . The first computing device of claim 15 , wherein the means for controlling at the first computing device an aspect of the online meeting associated with the second computing device comprises one of: muting, unmuting, changing volume, and disconnecting the second computing device from the online meeting.

17 . The first computing device of claim 15 , wherein the second computing device is a meeting room device.

18 . The first computing device of claim 15 , wherein the means for establishing the control relationship comprises means for determining that the first and second computing devices are within a predetermined proximity.

19 . The first computing device of claim 15 , wherein the means for establishing the control relationship comprises means for exchanging a secret value between the first and second computing devices.

20 . The first computing device of claim 19 , wherein the secret value is one of: a PIN, or a token data structure.
