Abstract

Fluid delivery and measurement systems and methods are disclosed.

Claims (26)

1. A fluid delivery device comprising:

a housing;

a fluid reservoir positioned within the housing and having a flexible member; and

a needle having a first end and a second end and at least one bend between the first end and the second end, the first end of the needle extending through the flexible member and into the fluid reservoir in a deployed position,

wherein the housing is configured to move in three mutually perpendicular directions relative to the needle in the deployed position.

2. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the needle includes a first end portion proximate the first end, a second end portion proximate the second end, and a middle portion extending between and generally perpendicular to each of the first end portion and the second end portion, the first end portion being generally parallel to the second end portion and the first end portion having a length that is smaller than a length of the second end portion.

3. The fluid delivery device of claim 2 , wherein the housing is configured to further rotate about the first end portion of the needle while in the deployed position.

4. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the first end of the needle is fluidly engaged with the fluid reservoir and the second end of the needle extends out of the housing in the deployed position, the fluid delivery device further comprising:

an initial position defined by the first end of the needle being fluidly disengaged from the fluid reservoir.

5. The fluid delivery device of claim 4 , wherein the second end of the needle is entirely shrouded by the housing in the initial position.

6. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 further comprising:

a needle button coupling the needle and the housing.

7. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one bend is approximately 90 degrees.

8. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one bend includes two bends each being approximately 90 degrees.

9. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the flexible member is generally parallel to a bottom surface of the housing from which the second end of the needle extends while in the deployed position.

10. The fluid delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second ends of the needle are beveled.

11. A fluid delivery device comprising:

a housing having a first opening and a second opening;

a button coupled to the housing and extending through the first opening of the housing, the button moveable within the first opening from an initial position to a deployed position;

a needle coupled to the button, the needle having a first end and a second end and at least one bend between the first end and the second end, the second end of the needle extending from the second opening of the housing in the deployed position; and

a fluid reservoir contained within the housing and having a flexible member, the first end of the needle extending through the flexible member and into the fluid reservoir in the deployed position.

12. The fluid delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the second end of the needle is inserted into an injection site on a user in the deployed position.

13. The fluid delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the flexible member flexibly deforms as the housing moves relative to the needle.

14. The fluid delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the needle includes a first end portion proximate the first end and a second end portion proximate the second end and a middle portion extending between and generally perpendicular to the first end portion and the second end portion, the first end portion being generally parallel to the second end portion and the first end portion having a length that is smaller than a length of the second end portion.

15. The fluid delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the first end of the needle is fluidly disengaged from the fluid reservoir and the second end of the needle is shrouded by the housing in the initial position.

16. The fluid delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the first and second ends of the needle are beveled.
