Abstract

According to one embodiment, when a read request received from a host includes a first identifier indicative of a first region, a memory system obtains a logical address from the received read request, obtains a physical address corresponding to the obtained logical address from a logical-to-physical address translation table which manages mapping between logical addresses and physical addresses of the first region, and reads data from the first region, based on the obtained physical address. When the received read request includes a second identifier indicative of a second region, the memory system obtains physical address information from the read request, and reads data from the second region, based on the obtained physical address information.

Claims (69)

1. A memory system connectable to a host, comprising:

a nonvolatile memory including plural blocks, each of the blocks including plural pages; and

a controller electrically connected to the nonvolatile memory and configured to control the nonvolatile memory, wherein

the controller is configured:

to manage plural regions obtained by logically dividing the nonvolatile memory,

the plural regions including a first region and a second region, the first region being read and write accessed using a first addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being write accessed using a second addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and a part of a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being read accessed using a third addressing scheme where the host designates the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored;

to receive a write request from the host;

when the received write request includes a first identifier indicative of the first region and the received write request designates, using the first addressing scheme, an address of write target data by a logical address associated with the write target data, to write the write target data to the nonvolatile memory, and to update a logical-to-physical address translation table such that the logical address designated by the received write request is mapped with a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the write target data is stored;

when the received write request includes a second identifier indicative of the second region and the received write request designates, using the second addressing scheme, an address of write target data by a logical address associated with the write target data and a part of a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the write target data is to be stored, to determine a physical address of the nonvolatile memory based on the received write request, and to write the write target data to the determined physical address of the nonvolatile memory;

to receive a read request from the host;

when the received read request includes the first identifier and the received read request designates, using the first addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a logical address associated with the read target data, to obtain a physical address corresponding to the logical address designated by the received read request from the logical-to-physical address translation table, and to read the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the obtained physical address; and

when the received read request includes the second identifier and the received read request designates, using the third addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the read target data is stored to read the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the physical address designated by the received read request.

2. The memory system of claim 1 , wherein

the first region includes a bootable region which enables an operating system to be booted.

3. The memory system of claim 1 , wherein

in each of the first addressing scheme and the second addressing scheme, the logical address designated by the host is a logical block address.

4. The memory system of claim 1 , wherein

the plural regions further include a third region, the third region being write accessed using a fourth addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the third region being read accessed using a fifth addressing scheme where the host designates a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored.

5. The memory system of claim 1 , wherein

in the second addressing scheme, the host designates a block number of a block as the part of the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored,

in the third addressing scheme, the host designates a block number of a block and an in-block physical address of the block as the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, and

the controller is configured:

when the received write request includes the second identifier and the received write request designates, using the second addressing scheme, the address of the write target data by the logical address associated with the write target data and a first block number of a first block in which the write target data is to be stored, to determine a first location in the first block, in which the write target data is to be stored, to write the write target data to the first location in the first block, and to notify the host of either a first in-block physical address indicative of the first location, or a group including the logical address associated with the write target data, the first block number, and the first in-block physical address; and

when the received read request includes the second identifier and the received read request designates, using the third addressing scheme, the address of the read target data by the first block number and the first in-block physical address, to read the read target data from the first location in the first block, based on the first block number and the first in-block physical address.

6. A memory system connectable to a host, comprising:

a nonvolatile memory including plural blocks, each of the blocks including plural pages; and

a controller electrically connected to the nonvolatile memory and configured to control the nonvolatile memory, wherein

the controller is configured:

to manage plural regions, the plural regions including a first region and a second region, the first region being read and write accessed using a first addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being write accessed using a second addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being read accessed using a third addressing scheme where the host designates the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored;

to receive a write request from the host;

when the received write request includes a first identifier indicative of the first region and the received write request designates, using the first addressing scheme, an address of write target data by a logical address associated with the write target data, to write the write target data to the nonvolatile memory, and to update a logical-to-physical address translation table such that the logical address designated by the received write request is mapped with a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the write target data is stored;

when the received write request includes a second identifier indicative of the second region and the received write request designates, using the second addressing scheme, an address of write target data by a logical address associated with the write target data, to determine a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the write target data is to be stored, based on the received write request, to write the write target data to the determined physical address of the nonvolatile memory;

to receive a read request from the host;

when the received read request includes the first identifier and the received read request designates, using the first addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a logical address associated with the read target data, to obtain a physical address corresponding to the logical address designated by the received read request from the logical-to-physical address translation table, and to read the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the obtained physical address; and

when the received read request includes the second identifier and the received read request designates, using the third addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the read target data is stored to read the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the physical address designated by the received read request.

7. The memory system of claim 6 , wherein

in the second addressing scheme, the host designates the logical address associated with the access target data,

in the third addressing scheme, the host designates a block number of a block and an in-block physical address of the block as the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, and

the controller is configured:

when the received write request includes the second identifier and the received write request designates, using the second addressing scheme, the address of the write target data by the logical address associated with the write target data, to determine both of a first block and a first location in the first block, in which the write target data is to be stored, to write the write target data to the first location of the first block, and to notify the host of a first block number designating the first block and a first in-block physical address designating the first location; and

when the received read request includes the second identifier and the received read request designates, using the third addressing scheme, the address of the read target data by the first block number and the first in-block physical address, to read the read target data from the first block, based on the first in-block physical address.

8. The memory system of claim 6 , wherein

the first region includes a bootable region which enables an operating system to be booted.

9. A method of controlling a nonvolatile memory including plural blocks, each of the blocks including plural pages, the method comprising:

managing plural regions obtained by logically dividing the nonvolatile memory,

the plural regions including a first region and a second region, the first region being read and write accessed using a first addressing scheme where a host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being write accessed using a second addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being read accessed using a third addressing scheme where the host designates the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored;

receiving a write request from the host;

executing, when the received write request includes a first identifier indicative of the first region and the received write request designates, by using the first addressing scheme, an address of write target data by a logical address associated with the write target data, an operation of writing the write target data to the nonvolatile memory, and an operation of updating a logical-to-physical address translation table such that the logical address designated by the received write request is mapped with a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the write target data is stored;

executing, when the received write request includes a second identifier indicative of the second region and the received write request designates, by using the second addressing scheme, an address of write target data by a logical address associated with the write target data, an operation of determining a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the write target data is to be stored, based on the received write request, and an operation of writing the write target data to the determined physical address of the nonvolatile memory;

receiving a read request from the host;

executing, when the received read request includes the first identifier and the received read request designates, by using the first addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a logical address associated with the read target data, an operation of obtaining a physical address corresponding to the logical address designated by the received read request from the logical-to-physical address translation table, and an operation of reading the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the obtained physical address; and

executing, when the received read request includes the second identifier and the received read request designates, by using the third addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the read target data is stored, an operation of reading the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the physical address designated by the received read request.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein

the first region includes a bootable region which enables an operating system to be booted.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein

in each of the first addressing scheme and the second addressing scheme, the logical address designated by the host is a logical block address.

12. A memory system connectable to a host, comprising:

a nonvolatile memory including plural blocks, each of blocks including plural pages; and

a controller electrically connected to the nonvolatile memory and configured to control the nonvolatile memory, wherein

the controller is configured:

to manage plural regions obtained by logically dividing the nonvolatile memory,

the plural regions including a first region and a second region, the first region being read and write accessed using a first addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and does not designate a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being write accessed using a second addressing scheme where the host designates a logical address associated with access target data and a part of a physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored, the second region being read accessed using a third addressing scheme where the host designates the physical address of the nonvolatile memory in which the access target data is stored;

to receive a read request from the host;

when the received read request includes a first identifier indicative of the first region and the received read request designates, using the first addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a logical address associated with the read target data, to obtain a physical address corresponding to the logical address designated by the received read request from a logical-to-physical address translation table which manages mapping between each of logical addresses and each of physical addresses of the nonvolatile memory, and to read the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the obtained physical address; and

when the received read request includes a second identifier indicative of the-second region and the received read request designates, using the third addressing scheme, an address of read target data by a physical addresses of the nonvolatile memory in which the read target data is stored, to read the read target data from the nonvolatile memory, based on the physical address designated by the received read request.

13. The memory system of claim 12 , wherein

the first region includes a bootable region which enables the operating system to be booted.

14. The memory system of claim 12 , wherein

the logical address included in the read request including the first identifier is a logical block address.
