Abstract

A computer-implemented method for generating geocoded user information is disclosed. The method comprises searching user data across multiple different data corpuses for entries having location-related information and determining locations for the location-related information. The method further comprises generating a map showing a current location of a mobile device along with representations of the entries having location-related information, at the determined locations, for entries from the multiple different data corpuses.

Claims (51)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

identifying a user entry from an account of a user;

determining a geo-location for the user entry;

displaying, on a screen of a computing device, a map of a geographic area and a graphical representation of the user entry, wherein the graphical representation of the user entry is overlaid on the map of the geographic area at a position of the map corresponding to the geo-location for the user entry;

submitting, to a search engine, one or more terms from the user entry;

obtaining search results from the search engine based on the one or more terms from the user entry;

identifying, by the computing device, a user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry; and

in response to identifying the user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry, displaying in an information window additional information about the user entry that was not initially displayed with the graphical representation of the user entry, wherein the additional information displayed in the information window includes (i) a summary of the search results that were obtained based on the one or more terms from the user entry, or (ii) at least one of the search results that were obtained based on the one or more terms from the user entry.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the user entry from the account of the user comprises obtaining the user entry from user data managed by a first application on the computing device, wherein the first application is separate from a second application that provides the map for display on the computing device.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein determining the geo-location for the user entry comprises converting a textual address associated with the user entry to geographic coordinates.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying the information window as a pop-up box that appears on the screen of the computing device in response to identifying the user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the user entry is a contact from a contact list of the user, and the geo-location for the user entry is a location of an address associated with the contact.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more terms extracted from the user entry indicate a contact or an event.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein determining the geo-location for the user entry comprises submitting a term from the user entry to a local search engine and obtaining, from the local search engine, a geo-location for an establishment where a task associated with the user entry can be completed.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining an estimated time of arrival of the computing device at the geo-location for the user entry; and

displaying, in the information window, an indication of the estimated time of arrival of the computing device at the geo-location for the user entry.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising overlaying the information window on the map of the geographic area, and positioning the information window adjacent to the graphical representation of the user entry.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

overlaying the information window on the map of the geographic area;

displaying as overlays on the map of the geographic area a plurality of markers, wherein the graphical representation of the user entry is one of the plurality of markers; and

positioning the information window over the map of the geographic area based on a number of the plurality of markers that would be obscured by the information window.

The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein positioning the information window over the map of the geographic area based on the number of the plurality of markers that would be obscured by the information window comprises positioning the information window so as to minimize the number of the plurality of markers that would be obscured by the information window.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a direction of travel of the computing device;

overlaying the information window on the map of the geographic area; and

positioning the information window over the map of the geographic area away from the direction of travel of the computing device.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the user entry identifies an event, and the method further comprises:

obtaining information describing a real-time status of the event; and

displaying the real-time status of the event in the information window.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , further comprising:

periodically obtaining information describing updates to the real-time status of the event; and

updating the information window to reflect the information describing the updates to the real-time status of the event.

15. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

identifying a user entry from an account of a user;

determining a geo-location for the user entry;

displaying, on a screen of a computing device, a map of a geographic area and a graphical representation of the user entry, wherein the graphical representation of the user entry is overlaid on the map of the geographic area at a position of the map corresponding to the geo-location for the user entry;

identifying, by the computing device, a user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry;

in response to identifying the user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry, displaying in an information window additional information about the user entry that was not initially displayed with the graphical representation of the user entry;

monitoring a distance between a current location of the computing device and the geo-location for the user entry; and

automatically displaying the additional information about the user entry in response to determining that the distance between the current location of the computing device and the geo-location for the user entry is within a predetermined distance.

16. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

identifying a user entry from an account of a user;

determining a geo-location for the user entry;

displaying, on a screen of a computing device, a map of a geographic area and a graphical representation of the user entry, wherein the graphical representation of the user entry is overlaid on the map of the geographic area at a position of the map corresponding to the geo-location for the user entry;

submitting, to a search engine, one or more terms from the user entry;

obtaining search results from the search engine based on the one or more terms from the user entry;

identifying, by the computing device, a user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry; and

in response to identifying the user interaction with the graphical representation of the user entry, displaying in an information window additional information about the user entry that was not initially displayed with the graphical representation of the user entry, wherein the additional information displayed in the information window includes (i) a summary of the search results that were obtained based on the one or more terms from the user entry, or (ii) at least one of the search results that were obtained based on the one or more terms from the user entry.

The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein identifying the user entry from the account of the user comprises obtaining the user entry from user data managed by a first application on the computing device, wherein the first application is separate from a second application that provides the map for display on the computing device.

18. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein determining the geo-location for the user entry comprises converting a textual address associated with the user entry to geographic coordinates.
