Abstract

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, storing, in a UICC memory of a communication device, access point name information associated with a plurality of access point names to be selectively utilized by a device processor of the communication device for wireless communications, and providing the device processor with access to the access point name information in the UICC memory to enable the device processor to establish the wireless communications. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (30)

1. A method, comprising

facilitating, by a device including a processing system, establishing wireless communications utilizing default access point name information;

receiving, by the device, a wireless provisioning message from a server via the wireless communications, wherein the wireless provisioning message includes provisioned access point name information associated with an access point name, and wherein the server does not adjust the provisioned access point name information based upon a type of radio access module utilized by the device; and

storing, by the device, the provisioned access point name information in a memory of a Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) that is connected to the device, wherein subsequent wireless communications utilize the provisioned access point name information.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting, by the device, connection of the UICC with the device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the receiving of the wireless provisioning message is performed responsive to the detecting of the connection of the UICC.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the UICC is a second UICC, and wherein the detecting of the connection comprises detecting removal of a first UICC from the device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device utilizes a type of radio access module, and wherein the server does not adjust the provisioned access point name information based upon the type of the radio access module.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the provisioned access point name information of the wireless provisioning message is associated with a plurality of access point names, and wherein a second access point name of the plurality of access point names is utilized by the processing system according to a type of data to be communicated.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device does not have a direct user interface.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the provisioned access point name information comprises network identification information.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is part of a communication system of a vehicle.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the provisioned access point name information includes a mobile country code, a mobile carrier code, or a combination thereof.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the provisioned access point name information includes a user name and a password.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising accessing the provisioned access point name information during a booting procedure of the device.

13. A server, comprising:

a processing system including a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

receiving, from a wireless communication device, a provisioning request that includes default access point name information; and

transmitting, to the wireless communication device, a wireless provisioning message, wherein the wireless provisioning message includes provisioned access point name information associated with an access point name configured to facilitate wireless communications, wherein the wireless communication device utilizes a type of radio access module, and wherein the server does not adjust the provisioned access point name information based upon the type of radio access module.

14. The server of claim 13 , wherein the wireless communication device stores the provisioned access point name information in a Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) of the wireless communication device.

15. The server of claim 14 , wherein the provisioned access point name information is stored by the UICC as an elementary file.

16. The server of claim 13 , wherein the provisioned access point name information comprises network identification information.

17. The server of claim 13 , wherein the provisioned access point name information includes a mobile country code, a mobile carrier code, or a combination thereof.

18. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor of a wireless communication device, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

detecting connection of a second Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) with the wireless communication device replacing a first UICC;

responsive to the detecting of the connection of the second UICC, receiving a wireless provisioning message from a server, wherein the wireless provisioning message includes provisioned access information, and wherein the server does not adjust the provisioned access information based upon a type of radio access module used by the first UICC; and

storing, in the second UICC, the provisioned access information to facilitate subsequent wireless communications.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the provisioned access information includes a mobile country code, a mobile carrier code, or a combination thereof.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the operations further comprise accessing the provisioned access information during a booting procedure of the wireless communication device.
