Abstract

What is described is a method for treating cancer in a patient in need of such treatment through the use of a dual CXCR1/2 antagonist by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a dual CXCR1/2 antagonist, or pharmaceutical compositions thereof, either alone as monotherapy, or in combination with at least one other anticancer therapy.

Claims (22)

1. A method for treating a patient with a cancer, comprising assaying levels of (a) CXCR1 and/or CXCR2 ligands or (b) myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and/or neutrophils in a patient with a cancer, and if the patient has increased levels of (a) or (b), wherein the increased levels are caused by the cancer, then administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a dual CXCR1/2 antagonist selected from the group consisting of navarixin, ladarixin, reparixin, reparixin L-lysine salt, DF2755A, CXCL8 fragment comprising amino acids 3-74 and substitutions K11R/G31P (G31P), DF2162, and SCH-479833, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering an anticancer therapy.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the anticancer therapy is a chemotherapy.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the chemotherapy includes the step of administering carboplatin to the patient.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein the anticancer therapy is radiation therapy.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the dual CXCR1/2 antagonist is navarixin and the cancer is selected from cancers of the prostate, colorectum, pancreas, cervix, stomach, endometrium, brain, liver, bladder, ovary, testis, head, neck, skin, mesothelial lining, blood, esophagus, breast, muscle, connective tissue, lung, adrenal gland, thyroid, kidney, lymphoid system, bone marrow or bone, glioblastoma, mesothelioma, renal cell carcinoma, gastric carcinoma, sarcoma, choriocarcinoma, cutaneous basocellular carcinoma, and testicular seminoma.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the dual CXCR1/2 antagonist is navarixin and the cancer is selected from cancers of the prostate, pancreas, stomach, brain, liver, head, neck, skin, blood, breast, lung, glioblastoma, and mesothelioma.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the dual CXCR1/2 antagonist is navarixin and the cancer is breast cancer.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered orally.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising administering a platinum chemotherapy.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the dual CXCR1/2 antagonist is navarixin and the cancer is a melanoma.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered orally.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising administering a platinum chemotherapy.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is a lung cancer.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered orally.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein the dual CXCR1/2 antagonist is navarixin and the cancer is a prostate cancer.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered orally.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is a glioblastoma.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered orally.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising administering temozolomide.

21. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is a pancreatic cancer.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered orally.
