Apparatuses, methods, and systems for extraction, isolation and conversion of various cannabinoids, and modifications of whole-plant hemp extracts therewith
Apparatuses, methods, and systems for extraction, isolation, purification, and conversion of various cannabinoids, and modifications of whole-plant hemp extracts therewith are presented. A method for preparing a whole-plant hemp extract based product includes extracting cannabinoids from plant materials, such as one or more hemp varieties of Cannabis sativa . The method also includes separating and purifying CBD from the extracted cannabinoids, converting purified CBD to Δ9-THC and Δ8-THC and concurrently converting Δ9-THC to CBN, purifying and separating the CBN, and combining the purified CBN with a whole-plant hemp extract. Products and supplements related to the method are also described.
1. A method for preparing a cannabis extract enriched in cannabinol, said method comprising:
(a) providing a cannabis extract comprising cannabidiol;
(b) purifying the cannabidiol from the cannabis extract of step a);
(c) converting the purified cannabidiol to Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol and Delta 8 tetrahydrocannabinol and concurrently converting Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol to cannabinol by heating the purified cannabidiol at 100° C. to 180° C., thereby producing cannabinol;
(d) purifying the cannabinol by supercritical fluid chromatography; and
(e) combining the purified cannabinol with another cannabis extract, thereby producing the cannabis extract enriched in cannabinol.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cannabis extract of step (a) is extracted from one or more hemp varieties of Cannabis sativa.
3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising combining at least one additional cannabinoid with the cannabis extract enriched in cannabinol of step (e).
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one additional cannabinoid is selected from the group consisting of cannabidiol, cannabichromene, and cannabidivarin.
