Abstract

A system for dispensing a fluid includes a container including a sidewall defining an interior space for holding the fluid and configured to separate the fluid into a liquid and a vapor. The system also includes at least one fluid inlet disposed in the sidewall, at least one liquid outlet disposed in the sidewall, a first sensor, a second sensor, and a controller. The first sensor is positioned adjacent to or upstream of the at least one fluid inlet and configured to detect a first temperature of the fluid. The second sensor is positioned adjacent to or downstream of the at least one liquid outlet and configured to detect a second temperature of the fluid. The controller is configured to determine a fluid temperature differential based on the first and second temperatures and determine an operational status of the system based on the fluid temperature differential.

Claims (39)

1. A system for dispensing a fluid, the system comprising:

a container including a sidewall defining an interior space for holding the fluid, the container configured to separate the fluid into a liquid and a vapor;

at least one fluid inlet disposed in the sidewall for fluid to enter the interior space;

at least one liquid outlet disposed in the sidewall for liquid to exit the interior space;

a first sensor positioned adjacent to or upstream of the at least one fluid inlet and configured to detect a first temperature of the fluid;

a second sensor positioned adjacent to or downstream of the at least one liquid outlet and configured to detect a second temperature of the fluid; and

a controller communicatively connected to the first sensor and the second sensor, wherein the controller is configured to:

determine a fluid temperature differential based on the first and second temperatures; and

determine an operational status of the system based on the fluid temperature differential.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine that at least a portion of the liquid changes to vapor when the determined fluid temperature differential falls below a predetermined threshold.

3. The system of claim 2 further comprising an operator interface communicatively connected to the controller, wherein the controller is configured to cause the operator interface to output an alarm to indicate that at least a portion of the liquid is changing to vapor, wherein the alarm is at least one of audibly perceptible and visually perceptible.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the operator interface is configured to indicate that the container is at least partially obstructed when the determined fluid temperature differential falls below the predetermined threshold.

5. The system of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of vapor valves releasably connected to the container, wherein the plurality of vapor valves is configured to exhaust vapor disposed above the liquid.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to generate a geographic spatial map based on determined geographic positions of the system and determined operational statuses of the system, wherein the geographic spatial map relates the determined operational statuses to corresponding geographic positions of the system at which the operational statuses were recorded.

7. The system of claim 1 furthering comprising a collection mechanism disposed within the interior space of the container and configured to collect solid materials carried by the fluid.

8. A method for dispensing fluid from a container of a fluid dispensing system, the container defining an interior space for holding the fluid, the fluid including liquid and vapor, the method comprising:

generating a flow of fluid through the container from at least one fluid inlet toward at least one liquid outlet such that the vapor and liquid are separated;

detecting, with a first sensor positioned adjacent to or upstream of the at least one fluid inlet, a first temperature of the fluid;

detecting, with a second sensor positioned adjacent to or downstream of the at least one liquid outlet, a second temperature of the fluid;

determining, by a controller communicatively connected to the first sensor and the second sensor, a fluid temperature differential based on the first and second temperatures; and

determining, by the controller, an operational status of the system based on the fluid temperature differential.

9. The method of claim 8 further comprising determining, by the controller, that at least a portion of the liquid changes to vapor when the determined fluid temperature differential falls below a predetermined threshold.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising outputting, from an operator interface communicatively connected to the controller, an alarm to indicate that at least a portion of the liquid is changing to vapor, wherein the alarm is at least one of audibly perceptible and visually perceptible.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising outputting, from the operator interface, an indication that the container is at least partially obstructed when the determined fluid temperature differential falls below the predetermined threshold.

12. The method of claim 8 further comprising exhausting vapor disposed above the liquid via a plurality of vapor valves releasably connected to the container.

13. The method of claim 8 further comprising generating, by the controller, a geographic spatial map based on determined geographic positions of the system and determined operational statuses of the system, wherein the geographic spatial map relates the determined operational statuses to corresponding geographic positions of the system at which the operational statuses were recorded.

14. The method of claim 8 further comprising collecting solid material entrained in the fluid within the interior space of the container using a collection mechanism.

15. A method of assembling a fluid dispensing system, the method comprising:

connecting a container in fluid communication with a fluid storage tank, the container including a sidewall defining an interior space for holding the fluid, the container configured to separate the fluid into a liquid and a vapor, the container further including at least one fluid inlet disposed in the sidewall for fluid to enter the interior space and at least one liquid outlet disposed in the sidewall for liquid to exit the interior space;

positioning a first sensor adjacent to or upstream of the at least one fluid inlet, the first sensor configured to detect a first temperature of the fluid;

positioning a second sensor adjacent to or downstream of the at least one liquid outlet, the second sensor configured to detect a second temperature of the fluid; and

communicatively connecting a controller to the first sensor and the second sensor, wherein the controller is configured to:

determine a fluid temperature differential based on the first and second temperatures; and

determine an operational status of the system based on the fluid temperature differential.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the controller is configured to determine that at least a portion of the liquid changes to vapor when the determined fluid temperature differential falls below a predetermined threshold.

17. The method of claim 16 further comprising communicatively connecting an operator interface to the controller, wherein the controller is configured to cause the operator interface to output an alarm to indicate that at least a portion of the liquid is changing to vapor, wherein the alarm is at least one of audibly perceptible and visually perceptible.

18. The method of claim 15 further comprising releasably connecting a plurality of vapor valves to the container, wherein the plurality of vapor valves is configured to exhaust vapor disposed above the liquid.
