Abstract

A cosmetic composition comprises (A) a silicone elastomer. The (A) silicone elastomer comprises the reaction product of: (a) a branched organosiloxane; (b) a crosslinking agent; and (c) a hydrosilylation catalyst. The cosmetic composition further comprises (B) a carrier fluid. A method of preparing the cosmetic composition is also disclosed.

Claims (30)

1. A cosmetic composition comprising:

(A) a silicone elastomer comprising the reaction product of:

(a) a branched organosiloxane having the following general formula:

Si—[OSiR 2 ]R 1 ] 4

wherein each R independently is R 1 or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group, and each R 1 independently is an unsaturated group or each R 1 is a silicon-bonded hydrogen atom;

(b) a crosslinking agent having an average of at least two functional groups R 2 reactive with R 1 of the (a) branched organosiloxane; and

(c) a hydrosilylation catalyst; and

(B) a carrier fluid;

with the proviso that when each R 1 independently is an unsaturated group, each R 2 is a silicon-bonded hydrogen atom; and when each R 1 is a silicon-bonded hydrogen atom, each R 2 is an unsaturated group.

2. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , further comprising (C) a personal care ingredient.

3. The cosmetic composition of claim 2 , wherein said (C) personal care ingredient is further defined as a skin care ingredient.

The cosmetic composition of claim 3 , wherein said skin care ingredient is selected from the group consisting of water phase stabilizing agents, cosmetic biocides, conditioning agents, emollients, moisturizers, colorants, dyes, ultraviolet (UV) absorbers, sunscreen agents, antiperspirants, antioxidants, fragrances, antimicrobial agents, antibacterial agents, antifungal agents, antiaging actives, anti-acne agents, skin-lightening agents, pigments, preservatives, pH controlling agents, electrolytes, chelating agents, plant extracts, botanical extracts, sebum absorbents, sebum control agents, vitamins, waxes, surfactants, detergents, emulsifiers, thickeners, propellant gases, skin protectors, film-forming polymers, light scattering agents, and combinations thereof.

5. The cosmetic composition of claim 2 , wherein said (C) personal care ingredient is further defined as a hair care ingredient.

The cosmetic composition of claim 5 , wherein said hair care ingredient is selected from the group consisting of conditioning agents, colorants, dyes, ultraviolet (UV) absorbers, preservatives, plant extracts, fatty alcohols, vitamins, fragrance, anti-dandruff agents, color care additives, pearlising agents, pH controlling agents, electrolytes, chelating agents, styling agents, ceramides, amino-acid derivatives, suspending agents, surfactants, detergents, emulsifiers, thickeners, oxidizing agents, reducing agents, film-forming polymers, and combinations thereof.

7. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein each R 1 independently is an unsaturated group and each R 2 is a silicon-bonded hydrogen atom.

8. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein each R 1 is a silicon-bonded hydrogen atom and each R 2 independently is an unsaturated group.

9. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein said (a) branched organosiloxane has the following general formula:

Si—[OSi(CH 3 ) 2 CH═CH 2 ]] 4

10. The cosmetic composition of 1, wherein said (b) crosslinking agent is an organosilicon compound.

11. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein said (b) crosslinking agent is an organic compound.

12. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein said (b) crosslinking agent comprises an unsaturated hydrocarbon.

The cosmetic composition of claim 12 , wherein said unsaturated hydrocarbon comprises an α,ω-diene of the formula CH 2 ═CH(CH 2 ) b CH═CH 2 , an α,ω-diyne of the formula CH≡C(CH 2 ) b C≡CH, an α,ω-ene-yne of the formula CH 2 ═CH(CH 2 ) b C≡CH, or mixtures thereof, where subscript b independently is from 0 to 20.

14. The cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein said (b) crosslinking agent comprises a polyoxyalkylene.

15. A method of preparing the cosmetic composition of claim 1 , said method comprising:

combining the (a) branched organosiloxane, the (b) crosslinking agent having an average of at least two functional groups R 2 reactive with R 1 of the (a) branched organosiloxane; and the (c) hydrosilylation catalyst; and

hydrosilylating the (a) branched organosiloxane, the (b) crosslinking agent, and the (c) hydrosilylation catalyst, optionally in the presence of the (B) carrier fluid, to give the (A) silicone elastomer; and

combining the (A) silicone elastomer with the (B) carrier fluid to give the cosmetic composition.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

combining (C) a personal care ingredient with the (a) branched organosiloxane, the (b) crosslinking agent, and the (c) hydrosilylation catalyst; and/or

combining (C) a personal care ingredient with the (A) silicone elastomer and the (B) carrier fluid.
