Abstract

A pump cassette comprising an assembly of a middle plate interposed between a top plate and a bottom plate is disclosed. The assembly forms the cassette and defines a plurality of fluid flowpaths, at least one diaphragm pump, at least one diaphragm valve, and at least one mixing pod. In some embodiments, the cassette includes one or more sensing features for permitting the sensing of various properties of a subject media. In certain such embodiments, the bottom plate comprises one or more sensor ports configured to hold one or more sensor probes that extend through one or more sensor element apertures in the middle plate.

Claims (21)

1. A pump cassette comprising a midplate interposed between a top plate and a bottom plate, the midplate having a first side facing the top plate and a second side facing the bottom plate;

the top plate comprising a pumping chamber wall of a pump; and comprising a first wall of a mixing chamber;

the bottom plate comprising a pump actuation chamber wall of the pump opposite the pumping chamber wall of the top plate; a second wall of the mixing chamber opposite the first wall of the mixing chamber; and a first wall of a valve, the pump actuation chamber wall and the first wall of the valve having an actuation port extending away from a plane defined by the bottom plate;

the first side of the midplate comprising a plurality of channel walls defining a plurality of fluid flowpaths; a pair of channel end walls adjacent to each other, each end wall enclosing a port penetrating the midplate and connecting to a fluid chamber of the valve on the second side of the midplate; the first side of the midplate also comprising channel walls of a first fluid flowpath and a second fluid flowpath of the plurality of fluid flowpaths, the first fluid flowpath and the second fluid flowpath being fluidically connected to respective first and second fluid ports of the first wall of the mixing chamber;

the midplate comprising a first aperture between the pumping chamber wall and the pump actuation chamber wall; the middle plate further comprising a second aperture between the first and second walls of the mixing chamber;

wherein the pump cassette is arranged to enclose a first diaphragm clamped between a perimeter of the first aperture in the midplate and a mating perimeter of the corresponding pump actuation chamber wall; and to enclose a second diaphragm clamped between a perimeter of the fluid chamber of the valve in the midplate and a mating perimeter of the corresponding first wall of the valve in the bottom plate; and wherein the mixing chamber does not include a diaphragm therein.

2. The pump cassette of claim 1 , wherein, the pump actuation chamber wall and first wall of the valve, but not the second wall of the mixing chamber, have an actuation port extending away from a plane defined by the bottom plate.

3. The pump cassette of claim 1 , wherein the bottom plate comprises one or more sensor ports configured to hold one or more sensor probes that extend through the middle plate; the midplate comprises one or more additional apertures opposite the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate; wherein the pump cassette is arranged to enclose a seal clamped between a perimeter of each of the one or more additional apertures in the midplate that are opposite the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate, and a mating flange of one or more sensor probes, sensor probe housings, or thermal wells associated with the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate.

4. The pump cassette of claim 3 , wherein the one or more additional apertures in the midplate that are opposite the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate comprise one or more sensor probe housings configured to mate with temperature or conductivity probes to detect temperature or conductivity of fluid in one or more fluid flowpaths of the plurality of fluid flowpaths of the pump cassette.

5. The pump cassette of claim 1 , wherein the first fluid flowpath is fluidically connected to a pumping chamber of the pump.

6. The pump cassette of claim 5 , wherein the second fluid flowpath is fluidically connected to an outlet port of the pump cassette.

7. A pump cassette comprising a midplate interposed between a top plate and a bottom plate, the midplate having a first side facing the top plate and a second side facing the bottom plate;

the top plate comprising a pumping chamber wall of a pump; and comprising a first wall of a mixing chamber;

the bottom plate comprising a pump actuation chamber wall of the pump opposite the pumping chamber wall of the top plate; a second wall of the mixing chamber opposite the first wall of the mixing chamber; a first wall of a valve, the pump actuation chamber wall and the first wall of the valve having an actuation port extending away from a plane defined by the bottom plate; and one or more sensor ports configured to hold one or more sensor probes that extend through the middle plate;

the first side of the midplate comprising a plurality of channel walls defining a plurality of fluid flowpaths; a pair of channel end walls adjacent to each other, each end wall enclosing a port penetrating the midplate and connecting to a fluid chamber of the valve on the second side of the midplate; the first side of the midplate also comprising channel walls of a first fluid flowpath and a second fluid flowpath of the plurality of fluid flowpaths, the first fluid flowpath and the second fluid flowpath being fluidically connected to respective first and second fluid ports of the first wall of the mixing chamber;

the midplate comprising a first aperture between the pumping chamber wall and the pump actuation chamber wall; the midplate comprising a second aperture between the first and second walls of the mixing chamber; and the midplate further comprising one or more additional apertures opposite the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate;

wherein the pump cassette is arranged to enclose a first diaphragm clamped between a perimeter of the first aperture in the midplate and a mating perimeter of the corresponding pump actuation chamber wall; to enclose a second diaphragm clamped between a perimeter of the fluid chamber of the valve in the midplate and a mating perimeter of the corresponding first wall of the valve in the bottom plate; and to enclose a seal clamped between a perimeter of each of the one or more additional apertures in the midplate that are opposite the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate, and a mating flange of one or more sensor probes, sensor probe housings, or thermal wells associated with the one or more sensor ports of the bottom plate; and wherein the mixing chamber of does not include a diaphragm therein.

8. The pump cassette of claim 7 , wherein the pump actuation chamber wall and the first wall of the valve, but not the second wall of the mixing chamber, have an actuation port extending away from a plane defined by the bottom plate.
