Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for receiving a screen capture image from a client device, the screen capture image being generated responsive to a command from a user, and the screen capture image including content generated by an application. The method also includes saving the screen capture image in a data store of images. The data store of images is associated with a user profile of the user using the client device. The method also includes associating a timestamp with the screen capture image and receiving an expiration time for the screen capture image from the user. The screen capture image is available for display until the expiration time.

Claims (59)

1. A method comprising:

receiving a screen capture image from a client device, the screen capture image being generated responsive to a command from a user, and the screen capture image including content generated by an application;

saving the screen capture image in a data store of images, the data store of images being associated with a user profile of the user;

associating a timestamp with the screen capture image; and

receiving an expiration time for the screen capture image from the user,

wherein the screen capture image is available for display until the expiration time.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising removing the screen capture image from the data store after the expiration time.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to reaching the expiration time of the screen capture image:

receiving a request from the user to share the screen capture image;

receiving a destination; and

making the screen capture image available to the destination.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

providing an interface displaying a selectable thumbnail for a portion of the images in the data store of images, the screen capture image being included in the portion; and

receiving a selection of the thumbnail for the screen capture image, wherein the request to share the screen capture image is received subsequent to the selection of the thumbnail.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the destination is a receiving user and making the screen capture image available to the destination includes copying the screen capture image from the data store of images associated with the user profile of the user to a data store of images associated with a user profile of the receiving user.

6. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving, from the user, a request to edit the screen capture image;

receiving a selection of a portion of the image from the user; and

obscuring the selected portion of the screen capture image.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data store is located on the client device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data store is located on a server communicatively connected to the client device.

9. A personal computing device comprising:

at least one processor formed in a substrate;

a display device; and

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the personal computing device to perform operations including:

receiving a command from a user of the personal computing device to capture content displayed on the display device, the content having been generated by an application,

generating a screen capture image of the content responsive to receiving the command,

receiving an expiration time for the screen capture image from the user, and

saving the screen capture image in a data store of images, the data store of images being associated with a user profile of the user,

wherein the screen capture image is available for display until the expiration time.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the data store is located on the personal computing device.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the operations further include removing the screen capture image from the data store after the expiration time.

12. The device of claim 9 , wherein the operations further include, prior to reaching the expiration time of the screen capture image:

receiving a request from the user to share the screen capture image;

receiving a destination; and

making the screen capture image available to the destination.

13. The device of claim 12 , wherein the operations further include:

providing an interface displaying a selectable thumbnail for a portion of the images in the data store of images, the screen capture image being included in the portion; and

receiving a selection of the thumbnail for the screen capture image, wherein the request to share the screen capture image is received subsequent to the selection of the thumbnail.

14. The device of claim 12 , wherein the operations further include:

receiving, from the user, a request to edit the screen capture image;

receiving a selection of a portion of the image from the user; and

obscuring the selected portion of the screen capture image.

15. The device of claim 9 , wherein saving the screen capture image in a data store of images includes sending the screen capture image to a server communicatively connected to the device, wherein the server stores the screen capture image.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon computer executable program code which, when executed on a computer system, causes the computer system to perform operations comprising:

receiving a screen capture image, the screen capture image being generated responsive to a command from a user of a client device, and the screen capture image including content generated by an application executing on the client device;

receiving an expiration time for the screen capture image, the expiration time being from the user;

saving the screen capture image in a data store of images, the data store of images being associated with a user profile of the user; and

associating a timestamp with the screen capture image,

wherein the screen capture image is available for display until the expiration time.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 , the operations further comprising removing the screen capture image from the data store after the expiration time.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 , the operations further comprising, prior to reaching the expiration time of the screen capture image:

receiving a request from the user to share the screen capture image;

receiving a destination; and

making the screen capture image available to the destination.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 18 , the operations further comprising:

displaying a selectable thumbnail for a portion of the images in the data store of images, the screen capture image being included in the portion; and

receiving a selection of the thumbnail for the screen capture image, wherein the request to share the screen capture image is received subsequent to the selection of the thumbnail.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the destination is a receiving user and making the screen capture image available to the destination includes copying the screen capture image from the data store of images associated with the user profile of the user to a data store of images associated with a user profile of the receiving user.
