Abstract

Methods for digital content production and playback of an immersive stereographic video work provide or enhance interactivity of immersive entertainment using various different playback and production techniques. “Immersive stereographic” may refer to virtual reality, augmented reality, or both. The methods may be implemented using specialized equipment for immersive stereographic playback or production. Aspects of the methods may be encoded as instructions in a computer memory, executable by one or more processors of the equipment to perform the aspects.

Claims (26)

1. A method for producing video content for output by an immersive stereographic content display apparatus, the method comprising:

receiving time-correlated video data capturing a scene from an array of video cameras;

defining a framespace comprised of frame streams from the array of video cameras, wherein the frame streams are correlated in time and each of the frame streams comprises a video stream captured by a corresponding one of the array of video cameras each having a defined position and orientation;

defining a framespace path across different frame streams of the framespace, the framespace path configured for providing a video stream comprised of frames from different frame streams of the framespace arranged in a time sequence.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating the video stream based on the framespace and the framespace path.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising generating the video stream configured for output by an immersive stereographic content display apparatus.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising interpolating video frames for transitioning between ones of the frame streams.

5. An apparatus for producing video content for output by an immersive stereographic content display apparatus, the apparatus comprising a processor coupled to a memory and to at least one sensor, the memory holding program instructions that when executed by the processor cause the apparatus to perform:

receiving time-correlated video data capturing a scene from an array of video cameras;

defining a framespace comprised of frame streams from the array of video cameras, wherein the frame streams are correlated in time and each of the frame streams comprises a video stream captured by a corresponding one of the array of video cameras each having a defined position and orientation;

defining a framespace path across different frame streams of the framespace, the framespace path configured for providing a video stream comprised of frames from different frame streams of the framespace arranged in a time sequence.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for generating the video stream based on the framespace and the framespace path.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for generating the video stream configured for output by an immersive stereographic content display apparatus.

8. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for interpolating video frames transitioning between ones of the frame streams.

9. The method of claim 4 , further comprising including interpolated frames in the video stream.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein cameras of the array are fixed, and each corresponding one of the frame streams are parallel.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising moving cameras of the array with respect to one another, causing each corresponding one of the frame streams to be non-parallel.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising defining ones of the frame streams by different view vectors corresponding to different orientations of cameras in the array.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising defining ones of the frame streams by different focal depths corresponding to different focal depths of cameras in the array.

14. The method of claim 2 , wherein generating the video stream comprises selecting frames in sequence across the framespace.

15. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for including interpolated frames in the video stream.

16. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein cameras of the array are fixed, and the memory holds further instructions for defining the framespace wherein each corresponding one of the frame streams are parallel.

17. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for moving cameras of the array with respect to one another, causing each corresponding one of the frame streams to be non-parallel.

18. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for defining ones of the frame streams by different view vectors corresponding to different orientations of cameras in the array.

19. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for defining ones of the frame streams by different focal depths corresponding to different focal depths of cameras in the array.

20. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the memory holds further instructions for generating the video stream at least in part by selecting frames in sequence across the framespace.
