Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a basket for a catheter designed to be deployed in complex vasculature to optimally treat vascular and arterial disease conditions such as blood clots, blood emboli, and deep vein thrombosis. The basket may comprise a shaft with a plurality of cuts along a portion of its length to form a plurality of tines that provide support for a plurality of porous tubes to form the limbs of the basket. The limbs of the basket expand radially away from the longitudinal axis of the basket when the longitudinal length of the basket is reduced. The limbs may also be connected to a drug delivery system, and in this manner, baskets of the present disclosure allow for the use of both mechanical and pharmaceutical means of thrombolysis.

Claims (21)

1. An infusion catheter comprising: a lumen fluidly connected to a plurality of limbs, wherein each limb of said plurality of limbs comprises a tine inside a tube, collectively forming a plurality of tines inside a plurality of tubes; and the plurality of tubes melted together at the proximal end, and the plurality of tines are made from a hollow shaft having a wall with an inner surface and an outer surface by making a longitudinal helical cut through the outer surface to the inner surface of the shaft; wherein the proximal end of the shaft is uncut and wherein the plurality of tines are not interconnected between the proximal and distal end of the tine.

2. The infusion catheter of claim 1 , wherein each tube of the plurality of tubes is porous.

3. The infusion catheter of claim 2 , wherein each tube of the plurality of tubes comprises a plurality of infusion ports extending between the inner surface and outer surface of the wall of the tube.

4. The infusion catheter of claim 3 , wherein the infusion ports are holes having diameters between 0.001 and 0.006 inches.

5. The infusion catheter of claim 1 , wherein the tines comprises a shape memory material.

6. The infusion catheter of claim 5 , wherein the shape memory material is a nickel-titanium nitinol alloy.

7. The infusion catheter of claim 1 , wherein said helically cutting are done by laser cutting.

8. The infusion catheter of claim 1 , wherein the helically cutting is at a rotation of at least 360 degrees over the length of the shaft.

9. The infusion catheter of claim 1 , wherein the infusion catheter is between three and eight inches in length.

10. The infusion catheter of claim 9 , wherein the infusion catheter is about six inches in length.

11. The infusion catheter of claim 1 , further comprising polymeric membrane attached to the outside of the distal end of the limbs of the infusion catheter.

12. The infusion catheter of claim 11 , wherein the polymeric membrane provides a webbing between each of the limbs forming a distal catch protection component.

13. The infusion catheter of claim 12 , wherein the distal catch protection component captures particles or clot debris floating downstream.

14. The infusion catheter of claim 13 , wherein the distal catch protection component is oriented inward towards the interior space of the infusion catheter.

15. The infusion catheter of claim 11 , wherein the polymeric membrane is of material selected from the group consisting of Nylon 12, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polyurethanes, and a polyether block amide.

16. A method of catheter directed thrombolysis comprising

providing an infusion catheter comprising: a lumen fluidly connected to a plurality of limbs, wherein each limb of said plurality of limbs comprises a tine inside a tube, collectively forming a plurality of tines inside a plurality of tubes; and

the plurality of tubes melted together at the proximal end, and

the plurality of tines are made from a hollow shaft having a wall with an inner surface and an outer surface by making a longitudinal helical cut through the outer surface to the inner surface of the shaft; wherein the proximal end of the shaft is uncut and wherein the plurality of tines are not interconnected between the proximal and distal end of the tine,

positioning the infusion catheter at least partially through a thrombus within a vessel, and infusing a therapeutic fluid through the tubes of the limbs of the infusion catheter to the thrombus.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the therapeutic fluid comprises a thrombolytic agent.
