Abstract

Provided herein is an occlusion device for intrasaccular implantation and/or vascular occlusion comprising: (a) a substantially solid marker having a proximal end, and a distal end; and (b) a low profile resilient mesh body attached to the distal end of the marker, the body having a delivery shape and a deployed shape capable of conforming to aneurysm walls; wherein the body has a diameter greater than a diameter of an aneurysm to be treated. Also provided herein is a kit comprising the occlusion device disclosed herein and a means for delivery thereof. Methods of manufacture and use of the occlusion device disclosed herein are also disclosed.

Claims (28)

1. An occlusion device for implantation within the sac of an aneurysm comprising: (a) a substantially solid radiopaque marker having a proximal end, and a distal end; and (b) a resilient mesh body attached to the distal end of the marker, the resilient mesh body having (c) a delivery shape and (d) a deployed shape in which the mesh is configured to lay flush in a flattened manner up against aneurysm walls and is capable of conforming to aneurysm walls; wherein the deployed shape of the resilient mesh body has a diameter greater than a diameter of an aneurysm to be treated, a n d the body is a layer of the mesh folded circumferentially and doubled back onto itself to create a fold line around the circumference of the body and a double layer of the mesh capable of conforming to the walls of the aneurysm and together with the proximal end of the marker is capable of sealing a neck of the aneurysm to be treated.

2. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the deployed shape of the resilient mesh body is capable of apposing an aneurysm dome.

3. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the proximal end of the marker rests across a neck of an aneurysm to be treated eliminating the need for additional material to pin the aneurysm neck.

4. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the marker is a detachment junction to deploy the occlusion device.

5. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the marker is an attachment junction to retrieve the occlusion device.

6. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the marker comprises a rigid member.

7. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the marker is a solid ring.

8. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the resilient mesh body covers about 50-70% of the inner surface area of a dome of the aneurysm to be treated.

9. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the resilient mesh body covers about 60% of the inner surface area of a dome of the aneurysm to be treated.

10. The occlusion device of claim 1 , wherein the resilient mesh body, in free air, has a height between of about 10-20% of its width.

11. A kit for treatment and/or amelioration of an aneurysm, the kit comprising:

an occlusion device for implantation within the sac of an aneurysm comprising (i) a substantially solid marker having a proximal end, and a distal end; and (ii) a resilient mesh body attached to the distal end of the marker, the resilient mesh body having (iii) a delivery shape and (iv) a deployed shape capable of conforming to aneurysm walls; wherein the deployed shape of the resilient mesh body has a diameter greater than a diameter of an aneurysm to be treated, wherein the body is a dual layer of the resilient mesh folded over and doubled back onto itself to create a circumferential fold line around the circumference of the body and a double layer of the mesh capable of conforming to the walls of the aneurysm and together with the proximal end of the marker is capable of sealing a neck of the aneurysm to be treated and wherein the occlusion device is dimensioned so that the proximal end of the marker rests across the neck of the aneurysm to be treated eliminating the need for an anchor within a parent vessel,

and

a delivery system or detachment system corresponding to the occlusion device.

An occlusion device for implantation within the sac of an aneurysm comprising: (a) a substantially solid marker having a proximal end, and a distal end; and (b) a low profile resilient mesh body attached to the distal end of the marker, the resilient mesh body having a delivery shape and a deployed shape capable of conforming to aneurysm walls; wherein the deployed shape of the resilient mesh body has a diameter greater than a diameter of an aneurysm to be treated, and the body is a dual layer of the resilient mesh comprising a single layer of mesh doubled back on itself to form a circumferential fold line, and wherein when combined with properties of the resilient mesh body the proximal end of the marker is configured to rest across an aneurysm neck to be treated eliminating the need for additional material other than the mesh body to pin the aneurysm neck.

13. The occlusion device of claim 12 , wherein the deployed shape of the low profile resilient mesh body is capable of apposing an aneurysm dome.

14. The occlusion device of claim 12 , wherein the marker is an attachment junction to retrieve the occlusion device.

15. The occlusion device of claim 12 , wherein the marker comprises a rigid member.

16. The occlusion device of claim 12 , wherein the marker is a solid ring.

17. The occlusion device of claim 12 , wherein the resilient mesh body, in free air, has a height between of about 10-20% of its width.

18. An occlusion device for implantation within the sac of an aneurysm comprising (i) a substantially solid marker having a proximal end, and a distal end; and (ii) a resilient mesh body attached to the distal end of the marker, the resilient mesh body having (iii) a delivery shape and (iv) a deployed shape capable of conforming to aneurysm walls; wherein the deployed shape of the resilient mesh body has a diameter greater than a diameter of an aneurysm to be treated, wherein the body is a single layer of the resilient mesh folded over and doubled back onto itself to create (v) a dual layer with no intervening structure between the layers and to create (vi) a circumferential fold line around the circumference of the body and a double layer of the mesh capable of conforming to the walls of the aneurysm and together with the proximal end of the marker is capable of sealing a neck of the aneurysm to be treated and wherein the occlusion device is dimensioned so that the proximal end of the marker rests across the neck of the aneurysm to be treated eliminating the need for an anchor within a parent vessel.

19. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the deployed shape of the resilient mesh body is capable of apposing an aneurysm dome.

20. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the marker is an attachment junction to retrieve the occlusion device.

21. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the marker is a detachment junction to deploy the occlusion device.

22. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the marker comprises a rigid member.

23. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the marker is a solid ring.

24. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the deployed resilient mesh body covers about 60% of the inner surface area of a dome of the aneurysm to be treated.

25. The occlusion device of claim 18 , wherein the deployed resilient mesh body covers about 50-70% of the inner surface area of a dome of the aneurysm to be treated.
