Abstract

A system includes: first tags configured to organize activities regarding respective physical objects, each of the first tags including at least a first processor, a first memory, a sensor, an input device, an output device, a wireless communication component, and a first activity component operated using the first processor and the first memory to adapt a behavior of the respective first tag; and a processing device configured to receive first wireless signals from at least some of the first tags, the processing device including a second processor, a second memory, and a second activity component operated using the second processor and the second memory to determine at least presence, proximity, and movement of the first tags based on the first wireless signals.

Claims (24)

1. A system comprising:

first tags configured to organize activities regarding respective physical objects, each of the first tags including at least a first processor, a first memory, a sensor, an input device, an output device, a wireless communication component, and a first activity component operated using the first processor and the first memory to adapt a behavior of the respective first tag;

a processing device configured to receive first wireless signals from at least some of the first tags, the processing device including a second processor, a second memory, and a second activity component operated using the second processor and the second memory to determine at least presence, proximity, and movement of the first tags based on the first wireless signals; and

second tags assigned to at least one of the first tags, wherein the at least one of the first tags is configured to be a parent tag of each of the second tags, and wherein each of the second tags is configured to be a child tag of the at least one of the first tags, the second tags configured to send second wireless signals to the one of the first tags, wherein the first activity component of the one of the first tags determines at least presence, proximity, and movement of the second tags based on the second wireless signals;

wherein the second activity component is configured to determine the presence, proximity, and movement of the first tags based on a received signal strength indication (RSSI) of the first wireless signals, a latency of the first wireless signals, a connectivity of the first wireless signals, a packet error rate of the first wireless signals, a packet loss of the first wireless signals, a change in the RSSI, a change in the latency, a change in the connectivity, a change in the packet error rate, and a change in the packet loss.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first activity component adapts the behavior of the respective first tag based on an output of the sensor of the respective first tag, the output including a measure of one or more of moisture, humidity, pressure, altitude, wind speed, strain, shear, particle radiation, or compass point direction.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first tags scans for second wireless signals from any of the second tags, and wherein the first activity component of the at least one of the first tags adapts the behavior of the one of the first tags based on scanning for the second wireless signals.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first memory of the one of the first tags has stored therein a record reflecting confidence levels relating to the presence, proximity, and movement of the second tags.

5. A method comprising:

receiving, in a first tag configured to organize activities regarding a first physical object, first wireless signals from second tags assigned to the first tag and configured to organize activities regarding respective second physical objects, wherein the first tag is configured to be a parent tag of each of the second tags, and wherein each of the second tags is configured to be a child tag of the first tag;

determining, in the first tag, event information regarding at least presence, proximity, and movement of the second tags, wherein the event information is determined taking into account a received signal strength indication (RSSI) of the first wireless signals, a latency of the first wireless signals, a connectivity of the first wireless signals, a packet error rate of the first wireless signals, a packet loss of the first wireless signals, a change in the RSSI, a change in the latency, a change in the connectivity, a change in the packet error rate, and a change in the packet loss;

sending, by a second wireless signal from the first tag to a processing device, the event information; and

adapting a behavior of the first tag.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising determining, by the first tag, a confidence level regarding the presence, proximity, and movement of the second tags, and sending the confidence level to the processing device.

7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising invoking mesh networking based on the determination.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first tag has a beaconing pattern and further includes an accelerometer, and wherein adapting the behavior of the first tag comprises increasing the beaconing pattern in response to the accelerometer indicating that the first tag is in motion.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first tag includes an accelerometer, and wherein adapting the behavior of the first tag comprises adapting the behavior of the first tag in response to output from the accelerometer indicating a fall of the first tag.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the processing device is included in a mobile device, and wherein adapting the behavior of the first tag further comprises pushing a notification to the processing device in response to the fall, and determining whether the mobile device moves away from the first tag.

11. A system comprising:

first tags configured to organize activities regarding respective physical objects, each of the first tags including at least a first processor, a first memory, a sensor, an input device, an output device, a wireless communication component, and a first activity component operated using the first processor and the first memory to adapt a behavior of the respective first tag;

a processing device configured to receive first wireless signals from at least some of the first tags, the processing device including a second processor, a second memory, and a second activity component operated using the second processor and the second memory to determine at least presence, proximity, and movement of the first tags based on the first wireless signals;

second tags assigned to at least one of the first tags, wherein the at least one of the first tags is configured to be a parent tag of each of the second tags, and wherein each of the second tags is configured to be a child tag of the at least one of the first tags, the second tags configured to send second wireless signals to the one of the first tags, wherein the first activity component of the one of the first tags determines at least presence, proximity, and movement of the second tags based on the second wireless signals; and

a contextual engine in at least one of the first tags, wherein the first activity component uses the contextual engine in adapting the behavior of the at least one of the first tags, wherein the contextual engine is provided with an internal awareness pertaining to the physical object, and an external awareness relating to factors externally related to the first physical object of the at least one of the first tags, wherein the internal awareness comprises at least one preset state value and at least one dynamic state value, and wherein the preset state value comprises a manufacturer's suggested retail price of the first physical object, or the dynamic state value comprises a market value of the first physical object.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the contextual engine provides at least event data based on calendar information, and a weather condition based on weather data.
