Abstract

A gravity-feed bin includes a generally hollow main bin having an open end, a storage reservoir and a dispensing chute. The dispensing chute has an opening disposed near a distal end. The bin includes a dispensing gate movable between open and closed positions. When the dispensing gate is in the closed position, the dispensing gate blocks the opening of the dispensing chute. One or more fins contact interior and/or exterior surfaces of the gate to provide cleaning functionality of the gate and/or sealing functionality between the gate and the dispensing chute.

Claims (41)

1. A gravity-feed bin for storage and dispensing of bulk material, comprising:

a generally hollow main bin having:

an open end configured to receive a bulk material,

a storage reservoir configured to store the bulk material,

and a dispensing chute configured to dispense the bulk material;

a gate movable between open and closed positions, wherein the gate is configured to block an opening of the dispensing chute when the gate is in the closed position; and

one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate, wherein the one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate further comprises:

one or more external fins operatively connected to a spout, the spout being in communication with the dispensing chute, the one or more external fins being adapted to operatively engage an external surface of the gate.

2. The gravity-feed bin of claim 1 wherein:

the one or more fins are operatively connected to a gate seal, the gate seal attached to and circumferentially surrounding at least a portion of an opening of the dispensing chute.

3. The gravity-feed bin of claim 1 wherein the one or more fins are connected to a group of structural members, the group of structural members cooperating to wrap around a portion of the gravity-feed bin and the group of structural members comprises:

a first structural member connected to a second structural member, the second structural member connected to a third structural member, and the third structural member connected to a fourth structural member.

4. The gravity-feed bin of claim 3 wherein:

the first structural member is connected to the second structural member at an oblique angle, the second structural member is connected to the third structural member at an oblique angle, and the third structural member is connected to the fourth structural member at an oblique angle.

5. The gravity-feed bin of claim 1 , wherein the one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate further comprises:

one or more internal fins operatively connected to the gravity-feed bin, and adapted to operatively engage an internal surface of the gate.

6. The gravity-feed bin of claim 5 , wherein the one or more internal fins are connected to a group of structural members, the group of structural members cooperating to wrap around a portion of the gravity-feed bin.

7. A gravity-feed bin for storage and dispensing of bulk material, comprising:

a generally hollow main bin having:

an open end configured to receive a bulk material,

a storage reservoir configured to store the bulk material,

and a dispensing chute configured to dispense the bulk material;

a gate movable between open and closed positions, wherein the gate is configured to block an opening of the dispensing chute when the gate is in the closed position; and

one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate, the one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate further comprises:

one or more internal fins operatively connected to the gravity-feed bin, and adapted to operatively engage an internal surface of the gate;

wherein the one or more internal fins are connected to a group of structural members, the group of structural members cooperating to wrap around a portion of the gravity-feed bin, and the group of structural members comprises:

a first structural member connected to a second structural member, the second structural member connected to a third structural member, and the third structural member connected to a fourth structural member.

8. The gravity-feed bin of claim 7 wherein:

the first structural member is connected to the second structural member at an oblique angle, the second structural member is connected to the third structural member at an oblique angle, and the third structural member is connected to the fourth structural member at an oblique angle.

9. A gravity-feed bin for storage and dispensing of bulk material, comprising:

a generally hollow main bin having:

an open end configured to receive a bulk material,

a storage reservoir configured to store the bulk material,

and a dispensing chute configured to dispense the bulk material;

a gate movable between open and closed positions, wherein the gate is configured to block an opening of the dispensing chute when the gate is in the closed position; and

one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate, the one or more fins adapted to maintain at least some contact with the gate further comprises:

one or more internal fins operatively connected to the gravity-feed bin, and adapted to operatively engage an internal surface of the gate the one or more internal fins are operatively connected to a gate seal, the gate seal attached to and circumferentially surrounding an opening of the dispensing chute;

wherein the one or more internal fins are connected to a group of structural members, the group of structural members cooperating to wrap around a portion of the gravity-feed bin and the group of structural members comprises:

a first structural member connected to a second structural member, the second structural member connected to a third structural member, and the third structural member connected to a fourth structural member.

10. The gravity-feed bin of claim 9 wherein:

the first structural member is connected to the second structural member at an oblique angle, the second structural member is connected to the third structural member at an oblique angle, and the third structural member is connected to the fourth structural member at an oblique angle.
