Abstract

Systems and methods for compensating, controlling, mixing and saturating/desaturating colors produced by or emitted from LED artificial light sources through use of multiple channel, LED controllers to control the proportion of constituent colors each to the other, to control the intensity level of the total light output of the mixed, desaturated light during and after color mixing and/or saturation/desaturation by simultaneously increasing and decreasing power to the constituent color LEDs at the same rate, and once a desired color has been produced, changing the intensity/brightness and/or degree of saturation of the produced color without changing the hue of the produced color.

Claims (37)

1. A process for desaturating a base color light of an LED sourced light comprising:

providing a base color light at a first light intensity;

providing a first Kelvin temperature white color light from a first LED emitter at a first LED light intensity;

providing a second Kelvin temperature white color light from a second LED emitter at a second LED light intensity;

crossfading the first Kelvin temperature white color light with the second Kelvin temperature white color light to produce a third Kelvin temperature white color light at a third LED light intensity; and,

crossfading the third Kelvin temperature white color light with the base color light to produce a desaturated base color light at the first light intensity.

2. The process of claim 1 wherein the step of providing the base color light is by providing light from at least one LED emitter.

3. The process of claim 1 wherein the step of providing the base color light is by providing light from red, green, blue and amber LED emitters.

4. The process of claim 1 wherein the first Kelvin temperature white color light is about 3000K.

5. The process of claim 1 wherein the second Kelvin temperature white color light is about 6000K.

6. A process of desaturating a base color light of an LED sourced light to produce a desaturated base color light of the LED sourced light having a predetermined Kelvin temperature white light comprising:

providing a base color light of an LED sourced light at a first intensity;

providing a first white light from a first Kelvin-adjustable, phosphor-corrected white color emitting LED having a first Kelvin temperature;

providing a second white light from a second Kelvin-adjustable, phosphorcorrected white color emitting LED having a second Kelvin temperature, the

second Kelvin temperature is different from the first Kelvin temperature;

mixing the first white light with the second white light to produce the predetermined Kelvin temperature white; and,

crossfading the base color light of the LED soured light and the predetermined Kelvin temperature white to result in the desaturated base color of the LED sourced light at about the base color light of the LED sourced light first intensity.

7. The process of claim 6 wherein the first Kelvin Temperature is about 3000K.

8. The process of claim 6 wherein the second Kelvin temperature is about 6000K.

9. A process of mixing and desaturating LED sourced light to produce a mixed color, desaturated LED sourced light comprising:

providing a mixed color, base LED sourced color light at a mixed color, base light intensity;

the step of providing the mixed color, base LED sourced color light comprising:

providing an LED light source having constituent LED light sources,

the constituent LED light sources including red light emitting LEDs, green light emitting LEDs and blue light emitting LEDs;

producing a first color of light at a first intensity from a first selected one of the constituent LED light sources;

producing a second, different color of light at a second intensity from a second selected one of the constituent LED light sources;

the second intensity lower than the first intensity;

mixing the first color of light with the second color of light by increasing the second intensity and decreasing the first intensity until the resulting color of light is produced at the first intensity to result in the mixed color base light intensity;

choosing a desired desaturation degree for the mixed color base LED sourced RGB color light;

[a] producing a Kelvin-adjustable, phosphor-corrected white light by combining light from first white color emitting phosphor-corrected LEDs with light from second white color emitting phosphor-corrected LEDs, the first LEDs and the second LEDs having different correlated color temperatures; and,

crossfading the mixed color base LED sourced RGB color light with the Kelvin-adjustable, phosphor-corrected white light to produce the mixed color, desaturated LED sourced light at an intensity at about the same intensity as the mixed base color light intensity.

10. The process of mixing and desaturating LED sourced light of claim 9 wherein the constituent LED light sources further include amber light emitting LEDs.

11. The process of mixing and desaturating LED sourced light of claim 9 wherein the constituent LEDs are positioned on a panel.

12. The process of mixing and desaturating LED sourced light of claim 9 wherein the constituent LEDs are included in an LED light string.

13. The process of mixing and desaturating light of claim 9 wherein increasing the second intensity and decreasing the first intensity is by pulse width modulation control.

14. The process of mixing and desaturating light of claim 9 wherein increasing the second intensity and decreasing the first intensity is by duty cycle control of the constituent LED light sources.

15. The process of mixing and desaturating light of claim 9 further including changing the mixed base color light intensity by changing power to the constituent LEDs.
