Abstract

An apparatus for a personal security alarm includes an alerting device with an alerting element, and an alarm device that activates an alarm in response to receiving an alert signal from the alerting device. The alarm device is in wireless communication with the alerting device and the alarm includes an audible alarm and/or a visible alarm. The apparatus includes one or more activation elements formed to activate the alerting device where the alerting element sends the alert signal to the alarm device in response to receiving an activation signal from the one or more activation elements.

Claims (40)

1 . A wearable device comprising:

an alarm;

one or more activation circuits;

a processor;

a cellular communication circuit;

a non-cellular communication circuit; and

a computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

determining a loss of communication with a personal computing device based upon a signal from the non-cellular communication circuit;

in response to the signal, activating the cellular communication circuit; and

wirelessly sending, via the cellular communication circuit, an alert signal comprising a notification to one or more predefined contacts in response to the loss of communication with the personal computing device.

2 . The wearable device of claim 1 , the wearable device being interchangeable with a plurality of wearable accessories, and at least one of the one or more activation circuits being accessible through one or more of the plurality of accessories.

3 . The wearable device of claim 1 , further comprising a global positioning system (GPS).

4 . The wearable device of claim 3 , wherein the alert signal comprises location information received via the GPS.

5 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the alert signal comprises an automated voice message.

6 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more predefined contacts comprises a user configured group of contacts.

7 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the non-cellular communication circuit comprises one or more of Bluetooth and WiFi.

8 . A system comprising:

an alarm;

a processor;

a cellular communication circuit;

one or more activation circuits; and

a computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

detecting a user interacting with the one or more activation circuits in a predefined selection sequence;

in response to detecting the user interacting with the one or more activation circuits in the predefined selection sequence, activating one or more functions of the alarm; and

sending, via the cellular communication circuit, an alert signal comprising a notification to one or more predefined contacts in response to detecting the user interacting with the one or more activation circuits in the predefined selection sequence.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the wearable device is an interchangeable alerting device shaped to fit within two or more wearable accessories.

10 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising a global positioning system (GPS).

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the alert signal comprises location information received via the GPS.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the alert signal comprises an automated voice message.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more predefined contacts comprises a user configured group of contacts.

14 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising a non-cellular communication circuit comprising one or more of Bluetooth and WiFi.

15 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a processor of a wearable device, a user input through one or more activation circuits of the wearable device;

in response to receiving the user input, determining, by the processor of the wearable device, a group of contacts comprising two or more contacts; and

wirelessly sending, via a cellular communication component of the wearable device, an automated voice message to the two or more contacts of the contact group.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the wearable device is interchangeable with a plurality of wearable accessories, wherein at least one of the one or more activation circuits is accessible through one or more of the plurality of accessories.

17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the wearable device further comprises a global positioning system (GPS).

18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising sending an alert signal comprising location information received via the GPS to the one or more contacts of the contact group.

19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the wearable device comprises a non-cellular communication component comprising one or more of Bluetooth and WiFi.

20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the contact group comprises a user configured group of contacts.
