Abstract

A computer-implemented method includes: determining, by a computer device, route options for traveling between a start point and an end point during a time of a call; determining, by the computer device, whether at least one of the route options satisfies a minimum acceptable signal strength and a maximum acceptable added travel time; in response to determining that at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, causing the at least one route to be displayed via a user interface of a navigation system; and in response to determining that none of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, determining a route including a waypoint that satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength at the time of the call, and causing the route including the waypoint to be displayed via the user interface of the navigation system.

Claims (61)

1. A method, comprising:

determining, by a computer device, route options for traveling between a start point and an end point during a time of a call;

determining, by the computer device, whether at least one of the route options satisfies a minimum acceptable signal strength and a maximum acceptable added travel time;

in response to determining that at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, causing the at least one route to be displayed via a user interface of a navigation system; and

in response to determining that none of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, determining a route including a waypoint that satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength at the time of the call, and causing the route including the waypoint to be displayed via the user interface of the navigation system.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining signal strength of a user phone at locations along the route options during the time of the call, wherein the determining whether at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength comprises comparing the determined signal strength of the user phone at locations along the route options to the minimum acceptable signal strength.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the determining signal strength of the user phone at the locations along the route options comprises determining historic signal strength of the user phone at the locations.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the determining signal strength of the user phone at the locations along the route options comprises predicting signal strength of the user phone at the locations based on a determined relationship and historic signal strength of other phones at the locations.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the time of the call is determined from one of:

input from a user at the user interface; and

an electronic calendar of the user.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the minimum acceptable signal strength is determined from one of:

input from a user at the user interface;

a stored configuration setting; and

a tag in an electronic calendar of the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the maximum acceptable added travel time is determined from one of:

input from a user at the user interface; and

a stored configuration setting.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the waypoint is determined from one of:

user-defined types of locations stored in a configuration setting; and

types of locations the user has historically stopped at while conducting a call.

9. A computer program product, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a computer device to cause the computer device to:

determine route options for traveling between a start point and an end point during a time of a call;

determine whether at least one of the route options satisfies a minimum acceptable signal strength and a maximum acceptable added travel time;

in response to determining that at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, cause the at least one route to be displayed via a user interface of a navigation system; and

in response to determining that none of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, determine a route including a waypoint that satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength at the time of the call, and cause the route including the waypoint to be displayed via the user interface of the navigation system.

10. The computer program product of claim 9 , further comprising determining signal strength of a user phone at locations along the route options during the time of the call, wherein the determining whether at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength comprises comparing the determined signal strength of the user phone at locations along the route options to the minimum acceptable signal strength.

11. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the time of the call is determined from one of:

input from a user at the user interface; and

an electronic calendar of the user.

12. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the minimum acceptable signal strength is determined from one of:

input from a user at the user interface;

a stored configuration setting; and

a tag in an electronic calendar of the user.

13. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the maximum acceptable added travel time is determined from one of:

input from a user at the user interface; and

a stored configuration setting.

14. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the waypoint is determined from one of:

user-defined types of locations stored in a configuration setting; and

types of locations a user has historically stopped at while conducting a call.

15. A system comprising:

a processor, a computer readable memory, and a computer readable storage medium;

program instructions to determine route options for traveling between a start point and an end point during a time of a call;

program instructions to determine whether at least one of the route options satisfies a minimum acceptable signal strength and a maximum acceptable added travel time;

program instructions to, in response to determining that at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, cause the at least one route to be displayed via a user interface of a navigation system; and

program instructions to, in response to that none of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength and the maximum acceptable added travel time, determine a route including a waypoint that satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength at the time of the call, and cause the route including the waypoint to be displayed via the user interface of the navigation system,

wherein the program instructions are stored on the computer readable storage medium for execution by the processor via the computer readable memory.

16. The system of claim 15 , further comprising determining signal strength of a user phone at locations along the route options during the time of the call, wherein the determining whether at least one of the route options satisfies the minimum acceptable signal strength comprises comparing the determined signal strength of the user phone at locations along the route options to the minimum acceptable signal strength.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the time of the call is determined from one of:
