Abstract

Disclosed are methods and devices, among which is a device that uses a memory map to identify whether functionality of the device should be implemented. The device may be coupled to a separate device, and, in some embodiments, the device may determine and provide a response of the device to requests from the separate device.

Claims (39)

1. An electronic apparatus, configured to:

communicatively couple, via a bus, to a processing apparatus different from the electronic apparatus;

the electronic apparatus, comprising:

first circuitry configured to:

receive, from the processing apparatus, a signal comprising a memory address;

identify, via a memory map, that a particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented based upon the memory address being mapped to a range of memory addresses associated with the electronic apparatus in the memory map; and

second circuitry configured to, in response to identifying that the particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented, cause implementation of the particular functionality via the electronic apparatus.

2. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a printer.

3. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the particular functionality comprises a memory operation.

4. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first circuitry is configured to receive the signal and identify that the particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented based upon the memory address being mapped to the range of memory addresses associated with the electronic apparatus in the memory map in a single bus cycle.

5. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second circuitry is configured to determine that the electronic apparatus is to provide a signal response with respect to the signal.

6. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a copier.

7. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a scanner.

8. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a game console.

9. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a set-top video distribution or recording system, a cable box, or a combination thereof.

10. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a digital media player.

11. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises an automation system.

12. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises an automotive computer system.

13. The electronic apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a medical device.

14. The electronic apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the memory operation comprises a read operation, a write operation, a refresh operation, or any combination thereof.

15. The electronic apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the memory operation comprises a direct memory access (DMA) operation.

16. The electronic apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the second circuitry is configured to cause the implementation of the particular functionality via the electronic apparatus in the single bus cycle.

17. The electronic apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the second circuitry causes provision, via the bus, of the response to the signal.

18. A system, comprising:

a processing apparatus;

an electronic apparatus different than the processing apparatus; and

a bus communicatively coupling the processing apparatus to the electronic apparatus;

wherein the processing apparatus is configured to send a signal comprising a memory address to the electronic apparatus via the bus; and

wherein the electronic apparatus is configured to:

receive, from the processing apparatus, the signal;

identify, via a memory map, that a particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented based upon the memory address being mapped to a range of memory addresses associated with the electronic apparatus in the memory map; and

in response to identifying that the particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented, cause implementation of the particular functionality via the electronic apparatus.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the electronic apparatus is a printer.

20. A method, comprising:

receiving, at an electronic apparatus, from a processing apparatus different than the electronic apparatus, a signal comprising a memory address;

identifying, via a local memory map, that a particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented based upon the local memory address being mapped to a range of memory addresses associated with the electronic apparatus in the local memory map; and

in response to identifying that the particular functionality of the electronic apparatus is to be implemented, cause implementation of the functionality via the electronic apparatus.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the electronic apparatus comprises a printer.

22. The method of claim 20 , performed in a single bus cycle.
