Abstract

Using an observation platform for training, monitoring, and mining structured communications. A signal is received from a first communication device at a second communication device associated with a computer system, wherein a first characteristic of the signal corresponds to an audible source and a second characteristic of the signal corresponds to information indicative of a geographic position of the first communication device.

Claims (21)

1. A method for monitoring communications in an observation platform, comprising:

monitoring, by a computer system, at least one communication signal of a plurality of communication signals between a first communication device and a second communication device, wherein said second communication device comprises a radio base station coupled with said computer system, wherein said first communication device comprises a handheld device, and wherein a characteristic of said at least one communication signal corresponds to an audible source;

determining, by the computer system based on said monitoring, a desired result has not been achieved with a feature of the first communication device by a user who is associated with said first communication device because the user is reissuing voice commands to the first communication device;

sending, by said computer system in anticipation of a need of said user for field support for achieving the desired result with the feature, an invitation for a training module from said computer system to said first communication device, wherein said training module is for use by said user in conjunction with said first communication device, and wherein said training module comprises a corrective action said user can take to achieve the desired result with the feature; and

in response to receiving by said computer system an acceptance by said user of said invitation, sending, by said computer system, said training module to said first communication device, wherein said training module comprises audio content played using said first communication device to teach said user specific phrases usable to achieve said desired result, such that said field support is reduced by resolving an inability of the user to achieve the desired result with the feature before said user tries to make contact for said field support.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said training module further comprises content selected from the group of content consisting of: video; text; and a combination of video and text.

3. A non-transitory computer-usable storage medium having instructions embodied therein that when executed cause a computer system to perform a method for monitoring communications in an observation platform, said method comprising:

monitoring, by the computer system, at least one communication signal of a plurality of communication signals between a first communication device and a second communication device, wherein said second communication device comprises a radio base station coupled with said computer system, wherein said first communication device comprises a handheld device, and wherein a characteristic of said at least one communication signal corresponds to an audible source;

determining, by the computer system based on said monitoring, a desired result has not been achieved with a feature of the first communication device by a user who is associated with said first communication device because the user is reissuing voice commands to the first communication device;

sending, by said computer system in anticipation of a need of said user for field support for achieving the desired result with the feature, an invitation for a training module from said computer system to said first communication device, wherein said training module is for use by said user in conjunction with said first communication device, and wherein said training module comprises a corrective action said user can take to achieve the desired result with the feature; and

in response to receiving by said computer system an acceptance by said user of said invitation, sending, by said computer system, said training module to said first communication device, wherein said training module comprises audio content played using said first communication device to teach said user specific phrases usable to achieve said desired result, such that said field support is reduced by resolving an inability of the user to achieve the desired result with the feature before said user tries to make contact for said field support.

4. The non-transitory computer-usable storage medium claim 3 , wherein said training module further comprises selected from the group of content consisting of: video; text; and a combination of video and text.

5. A platform for training using structured communications, the platform comprising:

a first communication device for sending a communication signal, wherein a characteristic of said communication signal corresponds to an audible source, wherein said first communication device comprises a handheld device;

a second communication device for receiving said communication signal;

a computer system associated with said second communication device, wherein said second communication device comprises a radio base station coupled with said computer system, and wherein said computer system is configured to:

monitor said communication signal;

based on said monitoring, determine from voice commands that a desired result has not been achieved with a feature of the first communication device by a user who is associated with said first communication device-because the user is reissuing the voice commands to said first communication device;

send, by said computer system in anticipation of a need of said user for field support for-achieving the desired result with the feature, an invitation for a training module from said computer system to said first communication device, wherein said training module is for use by said user in conjunction with said first communication device, and wherein said training module comprises a corrective action said user can take to achieve the desired result with the feature; and

in response to receipt by said computer system of an acceptance by said user of said invitation, send said training module to said first communication device, wherein said training module comprises audio content played using said first communication device to teach said user specific phrases usable to achieve said desired result, such that said field support is reduced by resolving an inability of the user to achieve the desired result with the feature before said user tries to make contact for said field support.

6. The platform of claim 5 , wherein said training module further comprises content in a form of at least one of: video; text; and a combination of video and text.
