Abstract

A device may determine that a verification method associated with a transaction card is to be modified from a first verification method to a second verification method. The first verification method and the second verification method may use different types of verification information. The device may provide a set of instructions to the transaction card after determining that the verification method is to be modified. The set of instructions may cause the transaction card to modify the verification method from the first verification method to the second verification method. The device may provide information identifying a modification to the verification method to a transaction backend device to notify the transaction backend device that the verification method associated with the transaction card has been modified from the first verification method to the second verification method.

Claims (77)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, from a transaction card device associated with a transaction card, information that the transaction card is at a particular geographic location,

the transaction card device associated with the transaction card being within communicative proximity of a transaction device, and

the transaction card device associated with the transaction card to receive the information that the transaction card is at the particular geographic location from the transaction device or a user device associated with the transaction card;

determining, by a transaction backend device, that a first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to a second verification method based on the particular geographic location of the transaction card,

the first verification method and the second verification method each including one or more verification methods including:

a chip and PIN method,

a chip and signature method, or

a biometric authentication method,

the transaction backend device to confirm that the transaction card includes a capability to use the second verification method;

transmitting, by the transaction backend device and to the transaction card device, a set of instructions to modify information associated with the transaction card based on the determination that the first verification method is to be modified to the second verification method;

receiving, by the transaction backend device and from the transaction card device, the modified information associated with the transaction card; and

transmitting, by the transaction backend device, authorization information to permit the transaction card to be processed at the transaction device.

2. The method of claim 1 , where receiving information that that transaction card is at the particular geographic location comprises:

receiving the information from the transaction device that identifies the particular geographical location of the transaction card when the transaction card is connected to the transaction device.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting information associated with requesting permission to modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method; and

receiving information associated with granting permission to modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing information to the transaction card to authenticate the set of instructions.

5. The method of claim 1 , where determining that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method comprises:

determining that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method based on a request from the transaction card device of the transaction card.

6. The method of claim 1 , where determining that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method comprises:

receiving a communication to confirm that a user account associated with the transaction card has been configured to support the second verification method.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating a data structure to identify that the first verification method associated with the transaction card has been modified to the second verification method.

8. A transaction card, comprising:

one or more memories; and

one or more processors, communicatively coupled to the one or more memories, to:

detect that the transaction card is at a particular geographic location,

a transaction card device, associated with the transaction card, being within communicative proximity of a transaction device, and

the transaction card device associated with the transaction card to receive information that the transaction card is at the particular geographic location from the transaction device or a user device associated with the transaction card;

request authorization for a transaction associated with the transaction device;

determine that a first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to a second verification method based on the particular geographic location,

the first verification method and the second verification method each including one or more verification methods including one or more of:

a chip and PIN method,

a chip and signature method, or

a biometric authentication method,

a transaction backend device to confirm that the transaction card includes a capability to use the second verification method;

receive a set of instructions to modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method;

modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method; and

transmit verification information associated with the second verification method to complete the transaction.

9. The transaction card of claim 8 , where the one or more processors, when determining that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method, are to:

send a communication to the transaction backend device to confirm that a user account associated with the transaction card has been configured to support the second verification method.

10. The transaction card of claim 8 , where the one or more processors, when transmitting the verification information associated with the second verification method, are further to:

transmit the verification information associated with the second verification method to the transaction device to complete the transaction.

11. The transaction card of claim 8 , where the set of instructions cause the transaction card to disable the first verification method and enable the second verification method.

12. The transaction card of claim 8 , where the one or more processors are further to:

authenticate the set of instructions to modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method.

13. The transaction card of claim 8 , where the one or more processors are further to:

provide information to the user device associated with the transaction card indicating the first verification method associated with the transaction card has been modified to the second verification method.

14. The transaction card of claim 8 , where the one or more processors, when determining that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method, are to:

determine that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method based on receiving transaction backend information.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more instructions, the one or more instructions comprising:

one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

detect that a transaction card is at a particular geographic location;

request authorization for a transaction associated with a transaction device,

a transaction card device, associated with the transaction card, being within communicative proximity of the transaction device, and

the transaction card device associated with the transaction card to receive information that the transaction card is at the particular geographic location from the transaction device or a user device associated with the transaction card;

determine that a first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to a second verification method based on the particular geographic location,

the first verification method and the second verification method each including one or more verification methods including:

a chip and PIN method,

a chip and signature method, or

a biometric authentication method,

a transaction backend device to confirm that the transaction card includes a capability to use the second verification method;

receive a set of instructions to modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method;

modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method; and

transmit verification information associated with the second verification method to complete the transaction.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions to detect that the transaction card is at the particular geographic location include:

one or more instructions to receive the information from the user device that identifies the particular geographical location.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the one or more processors to:

provide authentication information to the transaction backend device to permit the set of instructions to modify the first verification method associated with the transaction card to the second verification method.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , where the set of instructions cause the transaction card to disable the first verification method and enable the second verification method.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more instructions, when determining that the first verification method associated with the transaction card is to be modified to the second verification method, causes the one or more processors to:

send a communication to the transaction backend device to confirm that a user account associated with the transaction card has been configured to support the second verification method.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the one or more processors to:
