Abstract

Implants for the fusion or fixation of two bone segments are described. For example, the implants can be used for the fusion or fixation of the sacroiliac joint. The implants can have a matrix structure, have a rectilinear cross-sectional area, and have a curvature.

Claims (37)

1. An implant for the fixation or fusion of the SI-Joint, the implant comprising:

an elongate body having a fixed length, a longitudinal axis, a rectilinear profile in a cross-section transverse to the longitudinal axis, a proximal end and a distal end, the elongate body further comprising:

a plurality of linear apex struts parallel with the longitudinal axis and extending between the proximal end and the distal end of the elongate body;

a plurality of faces, wherein each pair of adjacent linear apex struts has one of the plurality of faces disposed therebetween, and wherein each of the plurality of faces comprises a matrix structure including a plurality of support struts extending between the respective pair of adjacent linear apex struts; and

a guide pin receptacle located along the longitudinal axis of the elongate body.

2. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the rectilinear overall cross-sectional profile is triangular.

3. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the rectilinear overall cross-sectional profile is rectangular or square.

4. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the guide pin receptacle has a circular opening adapted to securely receive a guide pin.

5. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body is coated with a titanium plasma spray.

6. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body is coated with hydroxyapatite.

7. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body is made of metal.

8. The implant of claim 7 , wherein the metal is titanium.

9. The implant of claim 7 , wherein the metal comprises a lattice structure.

10. The implant of claim 9 , wherein the lattice structure is cubic.

11. The implant of claim 9 , wherein the lattice structure is hexagonal.

12. The implant of claim 9 , wherein the lattice structure comprises a plurality of beams with a diameter between about 100 to 1000 microns.

13. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body is made of a ceramic material.

14. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body is mode of a plastic material.

15. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body has a porous outer surface.

16. The implant of claim 15 , wherein the porous outer surface has a pore size between about 100 to 1000 microns.

17. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the thickness of the apex struts and the support struts is between about 1 to 5 mm.

18. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the guide pin receptacle is located at the distal end of the elongate body.

19. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the guide pin receptacle is located at the proximal end of the elongate body.

20. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the guide pin receptacle is a first guide pin receptacle and is located at the distal end of the elongate body and a second guide pin receptacle is located at the proximal end of the body.

21. The implant of claim 20 , further comprising a cannula extending between the first guide pin receptacle and the second guide pin receptacle.

22. The implant of claim 20 , wherein a third guide pin receptacle is located between the first guide pin receptacle and the second guide pin receptacle.

23. The implant of claim 20 , wherein a plurality of pin receptacles are located between the first guide pin receptacle and the second guide pin receptacle.

24. The implant of claim 1 , further comprising an internal guide support comprising inner surfaces of the plurality of support struts.

25. An implant for the fixation or fusion of the SI-Joint, the implant comprising:

an elongate body having a fixed length, a longitudinal axis and a rectilinear profile in a section transverse to the longitudinal axis,

the rectilinear profile of the elongate body defined by a plurality of linear apex struts and a plurality of faces, each adjacent pair of the plurality of linear apex struts having one of the plurality of faces therebetween, wherein each of the plurality of faces includes a plurality of support struts extending linearly between the respective pair of linear apex struts; and

a guide pin receptacle located about the longitudinal axis of the elongate body.

26. The implant of claim 25 , wherein the rectilinear profile is triangular.

27. The implant of claim 25 , wherein the rectilinear profile is rectangular or square.

28. The implant of claim 25 , wherein the guide pin receptable is a distal guide pin receptacle disposed at a distal end of the elongate body.

29. The implant of claim 25 , wherein the guide pin receptable is a proximal guide pin receptacle disposed at a proximal end of the elongate body.

30. The implant of claim 25 , further comprising an internal guide support comprising inner surfaces of the plurality of support struts.
