Abstract

A device for reducing pressure within a lumen includes a reservoir structured for holding a fluid therein, an injection port in fluid communication with the reservoir, a compliant body structured to expand and contract upon changes in pressure, and a conduit extending between and fluidly coupling the reservoir and the compliant body. The fluid may be a compressible or a noncompressible fluid.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein said compliant body is operable to contract during systole and expand during diastole.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid is a compressible fluid.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the compliant body includes an outer membrane formed from a material selected from an elastic material and a flexible material.

6. The system of claim 5 , where the compliant body has a circular shaped cross-section, or wherein the compliant body has an oval shaped cross-section, or wherein the compliant body has a crescent shaped cross-section, and/or wherein the compliant body is shaped as an elongated cylinder having rounded distal and proximal ends.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a pump operably coupled to the injection port for controlling a fluid volume of the compliant body; and

a processor unit operably coupled to the pump for controlling of the pump.

8. The system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more sensors for monitoring one or more parameters, wherein the one or more parameters is fluid volume within the compliant body, or wherein the one or more parameters is pressure within the fluid reservoir.

9. The system of claim 1 , further comprising an anchoring member for anchoring the compliant body in said vascular lumen, said anchoring member structured to expand radially outward to contact the vascular lumen.

10. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a sheath surrounding said compliant body and said transvascular conduit, further comprising an anchoring member structured to expand radially outward to contact a vessel wall when said sheath is retracted.

11. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a sheath having a lumen, said sheath configured to be anchored in a pulmonary artery of the patient to accommodate delivery and removal of said compliant body operably coupled to said transvascular conduit through said sheath lumen.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein said transvascular conduit extends into an interior of said compliant body, and wherein said transvascular conduit comprises one or more openings on said transvascular conduit fluidly coupling a lumen of said transvascular conduit and an interior of said compliant body.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein said transvascular conduit includes a plurality of fluidly independent lumens, each of said plurality of fluidly independent lumens in fluid communication with said injection port and an interior of said compliant body, and wherein at least one of said plurality of fluidly independent lumens has a hydrophilic coating and at least a second of said plurality of fluidly independent lumens has a hydrophobic coating such that an absorbed and condensed water vapor that enters the fluidly independent lumen with the hydrophilic coating condenses.

14. The system of claim 13 , further comprising a liquid trapping device operably coupled to a return lumen, and/or wherein one or more of said plurality of fluidly independent lumens includes a one-way valve, or wherein one or more of said plurality of fluidly independent lumens terminate proximal or distal to the compliant body, and wherein said one or more of said plurality of fluidly independent lumens are configured to convey a diagnostic or therapeutic agent.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the compliant body is structured to be implanted in the vascular lumen of a pulmonary artery of the patient for treating pulmonary arterial hypertension.

16. A system for reducing pulsatile pressure comprising:

a reservoir structured to be implanted subcutaneously, said reservoir for holding a fluid therewithin;

an injection port in fluid communication with the reservoir;

a transvascular conduit; and

a compliant body structured to be implanted in a lumen of a vessel, said compliant body including at least one compliant body lumen,

wherein said fluid is pressurized such that said compliant body changes between an expanded state and a contracted state upon changes in pressure in the vessel,

the transvascular conduit extends between and fluidly couples the reservoir and said at least one compliant body lumen, and

said changes to the contracted state of the compliant body results in a reduction in peak pressure in the vessel.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein said compliant body is operable to contract during systole and expand during diastole.

18. The system of claim 16 , wherein the fluid is a compressible fluid.
