Abstract

A device for occluding a vasculature of a patient including a micrograft having an absorbent polymeric structure with a lumen of transporting blood. The micrograft has a series of peaks and valleys formed by crimping. The occluding device is sufficiently small and flexible to be tracked on a guidewire and/or pushed through a microcatheter to a site within the vasculature of the patient. Delivery systems for delivering the micrografts are also disclosed.

Claims (29)

1. A vascular implant configured for placement in an intracranial aneurysm comprising:

a tubular textile structure having a proximal region and a distal region and a proximal opening at the proximal region and a distal opening at a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal opening to the distal opening, and

a core element having a proximal portion, a distal portion and a lumen within the core element, the core element positioned inside the tubular structure and extending from the proximal region to the distal region of the tubular structure, the core element attached at a proximal portion to the tubular structure and attached at a distal portion to the tubular structure;

wherein the tubular structure has a plurality of yarns, and the tubular structure has a first series of peaks defined by the yarns and a first series of valleys formed between the yarns and a second series of peaks and a second series of valleys formed in the tubular structure in a longitudinal direction to create a wavy longitudinally directed shape along a length of the tubular structure.

2. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the tubular structure is non-self-expanding along its length from the proximal end to the distal end such that the implant has a first radial dimension in a delivery condition and the first radial dimension in a placement condition.

3. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the core element has a coiled structure having a plurality of coils and the vascular implant further comprises a tube secured to and positioned within proximal coils of the coiled structure.

4. The vascular implant of claim 3 , wherein a distal portion of the tube is within the tubular structure and a proximal portion of the tube extends proximally of the tubular structure and proximally of the coiled structure and the tubular structure is attached to an outer surface of the tube.

5. The vascular implant of claim 4 , wherein the tube is flush with an outer diameter of the core element.

6. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the core element is directly attached to the tubular structure and the tubular structure is melted onto the core element.

7. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the yarns are interlaced to form a fluid barrier that maintains permeability.

8. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the tubular structure includes a braid formed of the plurality of yarns and each of the plurality of yarns is formed by a plurality of polymer filaments, the plurality of filaments having a first set of pores therebetween and the plurality of yarns having a second set of pores therebetween.

9. The vascular implant of claim 8 , wherein the filaments are oriented substantially transversely to a longitudinal axis of the vascular implant.

10. The vascular implant of claim 1 , further comprising a separate radiopaque marker band, a portion of the radiopaque marker band positioned within the tubular structure and attached to the core element and secured to the tubular structure by melting the tubular structure over the marker band.

11. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the vascular implant is movable to a substantially linear configuration for delivery and returns to a non-linear configuration for placement within the vasculature, and is shaped in a pre-biased secondary helical shape.

12. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the core element is made of a radiopaque metallic material and wound into an open pitch helical coil.

13. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the tubular structure forms a braid forming a continuous circumferential wall along a length and the tubular structure forms an outermost layer in a delivery and a placement condition of the vascular implant.

14. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the core element is positioned entirely within the tubular structure along an entire length.

15. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the tubular structure forms a braid and individual yarns bulge outwardly so the braid has an uneven outer surface.

16. The vascular implant of claim 1 , wherein the core element has a helical coil and the implant includes a radiopaque structure spaced proximally from the helical coil.

17. A vascular implant configured for placement in an intracranial aneurysm comprising:

a tubular textile structure having a proximal region and a distal region and a proximal opening at the proximal region and a distal opening at a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal opening to the distal opening, and

a core element having a proximal portion, a distal portion and a lumen within the core element, the core element positioned inside the tubular structure and extending from the proximal region to the distal region of the tubular structure, the core element attached at a proximal portion to the tubular structure and attached at a distal portion to the tubular structure;

wherein the tubular structure includes a braid formed of a plurality of yarns and each of the plurality of yarns is formed by a plurality of polymer filaments, the plurality of filaments having a first set of pores therebetween and the plurality of yarns having a second set of pores therebetween; and

wherein the tubular structure has a wavy form having a series of undulations, and the series of undulations forms a first series of longitudinally extending first peaks and first valleys, and filaments of the textile structure form second peaks and second valleys.

18. A vascular implant configured for placement in an intracranial aneurysm comprising:

a tubular textile structure having a proximal region and a distal region and a proximal opening at the proximal region and a distal opening at a distal end, and a lumen extending from the proximal opening to the distal opening, and

a core element having a proximal portion, a distal portion and a lumen within the core element, the core element positioned inside the tubular structure and extending from the proximal region to the distal region of the tubular structure, the core element attached at a proximal portion to the tubular structure and attached at a distal portion to the tubular structure;

wherein the core element has a coiled structure and the vascular implant further comprises a tube secured to and positioned within coils of the coiled structure, wherein a distal portion of the tube is within the tubular structure, the tube has a lumen extending therethrough from a distal opening to a proximal opening.

19. The vascular implant of claim 18 , wherein the tubular structure includes a braid formed of a plurality of yarns and each of the plurality of yarns is formed by a plurality of polymer filaments, the plurality of filaments having a first set of pores therebetween and the plurality of yarns having a second set of pores therebetween, wherein individual yarns of the braid bulge outwardly so the braid has an uneven outer surface.
