Abstract

The catheter device comprises a drive shaft connected to a motor, and a rotor mounted on the drive shaft at the distal end section. The rotor has a frame structure which is formed by a screw-like boundary frame and rotor struts extending radially inwards from the boundary frame. The rotor struts are fastened to the drive shaft by their ends opposite the boundary frame. Between the boundary frame and the drive shaft extends an elastic covering. The frame structure is made of an elastic material such that, after forced compression, the rotor unfolds automatically.

Claims (47)

1. A catheter device configured to drain or fill hollow organs or spaces within a patient, the catheter device comprising:

a pump housing comprising a distal portion having at least one inlet aperture, a proximal portion having at least one outlet aperture, and a tubular portion disposed between the distal portion and the proximal portion of the pump housing;

a rotor disposed within the pump housing;

a drive mechanism connected at a distal end to the rotor, wherein the drive mechanism is configured to rotate the rotor relative to the pump housing; and

an outlet hose comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the distal portion of the outlet hose surrounds a portion of the tubular portion of the pump housing such that the proximal portion of the pump housing is disposed within the outlet hose;

wherein the pump housing is configured to receive blood through the at least one inlet aperture and expel the blood out through the at least one outlet aperture and into the outlet hose, and

wherein the pump housing is formed by a mesh structure comprising apertures.

2. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the rotor is configured to be positioned in a left ventricle of the patient, and expel blood distally away from the heart through the outlet hose.

3. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the drive mechanism comprises a drive shaft, wherein a proximal end of the drive shaft is connected to a motor.

4. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the outlet hose is configured to operate as a non-return valve.

5. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the pump housing is expandable into an expanded state and compressible into a compressed state, wherein in the compressed state the pump housing is sized for percutaneous insertion into a vascular system of a patient.

6. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the pump housing self-expands into an expanded state after insertion into the vascular system of the patient.

7. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the mesh structure is made from a memory material.

8. The catheter device according to claim 7 , wherein the memory material is nitinol.

9. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the pump housing comprises an elastic covering that covers the mesh structure in the tubular portion of the pump housing to provide a liquid seal of the apertures of the mesh structure in the tubular portion of the pump housing.

10. The catheter device according to claim 9 , wherein the elastic covering comprises a polymeric material.

11. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the distal portion of the outlet hose makes a seal with the mesh structure.

12. The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein the outflow hose is fluidly connected to the pump housing.

13. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the outflow hose is made from polyurethane (PU).

14. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the outflow hose is tubular.

15. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the catheter device is configured to pump blood across a valve.

16. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the distal portion and proximal portion of pump housing are tapered.

17. The catheter device according to claim 1 , wherein the proximal portion of the outlet hose includes a plurality of radially consecutive outlets configured to agitate blood passing through the plurality of radially consecutive outlets.

18. The catheter device according to claim 17 , wherein the radially consecutive outlets are oval in a flow direction of the blood.

19. The catheter device according to claim 17 , wherein the radially consecutive outlets are circular or half-moon-shaped.

20. A catheter device configured to drain or fill hollow organs or spaces within a patient, the catheter device comprising:

a pump housing comprising a distal portion having at least one inlet aperture, a proximal portion having at least one outlet aperture, and a tubular portion disposed between the distal portion and the proximal portion of the pump housing;

a rotor disposed within the pump housing;

a drive mechanism connected at a distal end to the rotor, wherein the drive mechanism is configured to rotate the rotor relative to the pump housing; and

an outlet hose comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the distal portion of the outlet hose surrounds a portion of the tubular portion of the pump housing such that the proximal portion of the pump housing is disposed within the outlet hose;

wherein the pump housing is configured to receive blood through the at least one inlet aperture and expel the blood out through the at least one outlet aperture and into the outlet hose,

wherein the pump housing is expandable into an expanded state and compressible into a compressed state, and

wherein in the compressed state the pump housing is sized for percutaneous insertion into a vascular system of the patient.

21. A catheter device configured to drain or fill hollow organs or spaces within a patient, the catheter device comprising:

a pump housing comprising a distal portion having at least one inlet aperture, a proximal portion having at least one outlet aperture, and a tubular portion disposed between the distal portion and the proximal portion of the pump housing;

a rotor disposed within the pump housing;

a drive mechanism connected at a distal end to the rotor, wherein the drive mechanism is configured to rotate the rotor relative to the pump housing; and
