Abstract

An assembly for use in a bearing compartment includes a pedestal and a damper having a damper surface configured to be positioned adjacent to the pedestal and separated from the pedestal by a gap, the gap receiving a damping fluid to form a damping assembly between the damper and the pedestal. The assembly further includes a first annular spring positioned axially forward or axially aft of the pedestal. The assembly further includes an anti-rotation feature configured to resist rotation of the first annular spring relative to at least one of the pedestal or the damper.

Claims (63)

1. An assembly for use in a bearing compartment comprising:

a pedestal;

a damper having a damper surface configured to be positioned adjacent to the pedestal and separated from the pedestal by a gap, the gap receiving a damping fluid to form a damping assembly between the damper and the pedestal;

a first annular spring positioned axially forward or axially aft of the pedestal;

an anti-rotation feature configured to resist circumferential rotation of the first annular spring relative to at least one of the pedestal or the damper; and

an oil nozzle coupled to the pedestal and configured to extend through a window defined by the first annular spring and to supply a lubricant to the bearing compartment.

2. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the anti-rotation feature includes at least one of:

a spring castellation of the first annular spring and a corresponding damper castellation of the damper;

a fastener configured to extend through a portion of the first annular spring and a portion of the pedestal; or

a pin configured to extend through a portion of the first annular spring and a portion of at least one of the pedestal or the damper.

3. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a bearing support located radially outward of the pedestal and formed monolithic with the pedestal.

4. The assembly of claim 3 , further comprising a helicoil configured to be coupled to the first annular spring, and a fastener configured to extend through a portion of the pedestal and the helicoil in order to axially couple the first annular spring to the pedestal.

5. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the pedestal defines a scavenging hole for scavenging the damping fluid from the gap.

6. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a bearing outer race located radially inward from the damper and having a different material than the damper.

7. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a fan blade out feature, wherein the first annular spring includes an inner ring and an outer ring located radially outward from the inner ring and the fan blade out feature is configured to resist rotation of the inner ring relative to the outer ring.

8. The assembly of claim 7 , further comprising a bearing support located radially outward of the pedestal, wherein the fan blade out feature includes at least one of:

a pedestal lug formed in the pedestal and configured to be received by a slot defined by the inner ring of the spring;

an outer ring lug formed in the outer ring of the spring and configured to be received by the slot defined by the inner ring; or

a support lug formed in the bearing support and configured to be received by the slot defined by the inner ring.

9. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a disassembly feature configured to facilitate disassembly of the assembly and including at least one of:

a threaded hole formed in at least one of the pedestal or the first annular spring;

a helicoil located in at least one of the pedestal or the first annular spring; or

a disassembly boss formed in at least one of the pedestal or the first annular spring.

10. An assembly for use in a bearing compartment comprising:

a pedestal;

a damper having a damper surface configured to be positioned adjacent to the pedestal and separated from the pedestal by a gap, the gap receiving a damping fluid to form a damping assembly between the damper and the pedestal;

a first annular spring positioned axially forward or axially aft of the pedestal;

a scavenging hole defined by the pedestal and configured to scavenge the damping fluid from the gap;

a helicoil configured to be coupled to the first annular spring;

and a fastener configured to extend through a portion of the pedestal and the helicoil in order to couple the first annular spring to the pedestal.

11. The assembly of claim 10 , further including an anti-rotation feature that includes at least one of:

a spring castellation of the first annular spring and a corresponding damper castellation of the damper;

a fastener configured to extend through a portion of the first annular spring and a portion of the pedestal; or

a pin configured to extend through a portion of the first annular spring and a portion of at least one of the pedestal or the damper.

12. The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a bearing support located radially outward of the pedestal and formed monolithic with the pedestal.

13. The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a bearing outer race located radially inward from the damper and having a different material than the damper.

14. The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising an oil nozzle coupled to the pedestal and configured to extend through a window defined by the first annular spring and to supply a lubricant to the bearing compartment.

15. The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a fan blade out feature and a bearing support located radially outward of the pedestal, wherein:

the first annular spring includes an inner ring and an outer ring located radially outward from the inner ring and the fan blade out feature is configured to resist rotation of the inner ring relative to the outer ring; and

the fan blade out feature includes at least one of:

a pedestal lug formed in the pedestal and configured to be received by a slot defined by the inner ring,

an outer ring lug formed in the outer ring and configured to be received by the slot defined by the inner ring, or

a support lug formed in the bearing support and configured to be received by the slot defined by the inner ring.

16. The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a disassembly feature configured to facilitate disassembly of the assembly and including at least one of:

a threaded hole formed in at least one of the pedestal or the first annular spring;

a helicoil located in at least one of the pedestal or the first annular spring; or

a disassembly boss formed in at least one of the pedestal or the first annular spring.

17. An assembly for use in a bearing compartment comprising:

a pedestal;

a damper having a damper surface configured to be positioned adjacent to the pedestal and separated from the pedestal by a gap, the gap receiving a damping fluid to form a damping assembly between the damper and the pedestal;
