Abstract

A braking system includes a vehicle having a front brake and a rear brake. The system includes a moveable structure connected to a rear brake. The rear brake may be a hydraulic brake. When the rear brake is actuated, the moveable structure moves. The movement of the structure pressurizes hydraulic fluid in a tube which actuates a front hydraulic brake.

Claims (21)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a rear brake coupled to a hydraulic cylinder filed with hydraulic fluid and the hydraulic cylinder is coupled to a guide, wherein the rear brake slows the rotation of a rear wheel;

a piston that moves within the hydraulic cylinder;

a slide assembly coupled to a brake pad and a piston rod that is attached the piston;

hydraulic tubing filled with the hydraulic fluid coupled to the hydraulic cylinder and a front brake;

wherein the guide moves within a groove having a T-shaped cross section in the slide portion of the slider assembly during braking, the brake pad of the rear brake and the slide assembly are pressed against a rear rim of the rear wheel that creates a friction force between a rotating brake surface and the brake pad which causes the slide assembly to move forward against the guide and the piston to move within the hydraulic cylinder and the front brake slows the rotation of a front wheel by means of the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic tubing.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a lubricious material between the slide assembly and the guide.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the rear brake is controlled by a rear brake actuator that includes a rear brake hand lever.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the slide portion of the slider assembly moves within a groove in the guide and the brake pad is adjacent to the groove.

5. An apparatus comprising:

a rear brake coupled to a hydraulic cylinder filed with hydraulic fluid and the hydraulic cylinder is coupled to a guide, wherein the rear brake slows the rotation of a rear wheel;

a piston that moves within the hydraulic cylinder;

a slide assembly coupled to a brake pad and a piston rod that is attached the piston;

hydraulic tubing filled with the hydraulic fluid coupled to the hydraulic cylinder and the front brake;

wherein the guide moves within a groove having a T-shaped cross section in the slide portion of the slider assembly and during braking, the brake pad of the rear brake and the slide assembly are pressed against a rear disk brake rotor coupled to the rear wheel that creates a friction force between a rotating brake surface and the brake pad which causes the slide assembly to move forward against the guide and the piston to move within the hydraulic cylinder and the front brake slows the rotation of a front wheel by means of the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic tubing.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 , further comprising:

a lubricious material between the slide assembly and the guide.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein a front brake actuator includes the cable.

8. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the rear brake is controlled by a rear brake actuator that includes a rear brake hand lever.

9. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the slide portion of the slider assembly moves within a groove in the guide and the brake pad is adjacent to the groove.
