Abstract

A system for mapping a multilayer network having a server layer and a client layer is provided. The system includes a framework configured for comparing information obtained from a first traffic counter of a client port to information obtained from a second traffic counter of a server port to thereby determine if the client port and the server port are linked.

Claims (7)

1. A system for mapping a multi-layer communication network having an optical layer and an internet protocol (IP) layer, the system comprising a controller configured to execute instructions for:

(a) removing an optical port of an IP node in a multi-link bundle interconnecting two nodes of the IP layer, said removing being under conditions in which a capacity of said multi-link bundle exceeds communication traffic demand between said two nodes of the IP layer, following said removing; and

(b) identifying an optical port of the optical layer that loses communication thereby mapping said optical port of the IP node to said optical port.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein said removing is effected by switching off said optical port of the IP node.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein said loss of communication in said optical port is indicated by a traffic counter within an optical node comprising said optical port.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein said conditions are created by the system, by first adding a new link between said two nodes using existing router interfaces and sharing traffic load over said link.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the system creates an additional link in said multi-link bundle thereby increasing said capacity of said multi-link bundle to exceed said communication traffic demand.
