Abstract

A support assembly for use with snow sports boards includes a base configured to be attached to the snow sports board. A frame has a first portion extending downward and a second portion extending rearward from the first portion. A seat is mounted on the second portion of the frame. A shock absorber extends between the base and the first portion of the frame. During use, the support assembly is configured to support a rider sitting on the seat in a face-forward position with the rider's knees vertically below and forward of the rider's hips.

Claims (27)

1. A support and suspension assembly for a snow sports board, the assembly comprising:

a frame having a first portion extending downward and a second portion extending rearward from the first portion;

a base configured to be attached to a snow sports board;

a seat on the second portion of the frame;

a shock absorber connected between the base and the first portion of the frame; and

one or more knee supports on opposite sides of the frame and extending laterally outward from the frame;

wherein the support assembly is configured to support a rider in a seated, face-forward riding position with knees of the rider vertically below and forward of hips of the rider.

2. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein the frame generally defines an inverted L shape.

3. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 further comprising

a first linkage connected between the first portion of the frame and a rear portion of the base; and

a second linkage connected between the first portion of the frame and a front portion of the base.

4. The support and suspension assembly of claim 3 , wherein the first linkage and the second linkage each extends upward and forward from the base to the first portion of the frame.

5. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein a rearward end of the second portion of the frame is at least 16 inches above the snow sports board when the base is mounted on the snow sports board.

6. The support and suspension assembly of claim 5 , wherein the rearward end is at least 16 inches above the snow sports board when the base is mounted on the snow sports board and inclusive of up to 4 inches of sag in the shock absorber from a rider seated on the seat.

7. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein when the support and suspension assembly is mounted on a snow sports board, the seat is cantilevered above a rear portion of the snow sports board, thereby defining an open region that is below the second portion of the frame and rearward of the shock absorber.

8. The support and suspension assembly of claim 7 , wherein the open region is sized to receive a chairlift seat, a top surface of the chairlift seat being from 16 to 20 inches above the ground.

9. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein the one or more knee supports includes a left knee support on a left side of the frame and a right knee support on a right side of the frame, the left knee support being distinct from the right knee support.

10. The support assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more knee supports comprises a portion that is contoured to mate with a lower leg of the rider.

11. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein a rear portion of each of the one or more knee supports has an adjustable height above the snow sports board.

12. The support and suspension assembly of claim 9 , wherein each of the left knee support and the right knee support is configured to fold against the first portion of the frame.

13. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 further comprising a foot support configured to be attached to the snow sports board behind the base.

14. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 further comprising a foot support attached to the base.

15. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein the seat pivots about an upper end of the shock absorber when the shock absorber is compressed.

16. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the frame is removably attached to the first portion of the frame.

17. The support and suspension assembly of claim 16 further comprising a removable riser connected between the first portion and the second portion of the frame.

18. The support and suspension assembly of claim 1 further comprising a snow sports board secured to the base of the suspension assembly.

19. The support assembly of claim 1 , wherein the seat includes a bottom portion and hip plates extending upward from opposite sides of the bottom portion.
