Abstract

An analyte sensor system is provided. The system includes a base configured to attach to a skin of a host. The base includes an analyte sensor configured to generate a sensor signal indicative of an analyte concentration level of the host, a battery, and a first plurality of contacts. The system includes a sensor electronics module configured to releasably couple to the base. The sensor electronics module includes a second plurality of contacts, each configured to make electrical contact with a respective one of the first plurality of contacts, and a wireless transceiver configured to transmit a wireless signal based at least in part on the sensor signal. The system includes a first sealing member configured to provide a seal around the first and second plurality of contacts within a first cavity. Related analyte sensor systems, analyte sensor base assemblies and methods are also provided.

Claims (36)

1. An analyte sensor system, comprising:

a base configured to attach to a skin of a host, the base having a bottom side configured to face towards the skin of the host and a top side configured to face opposite the bottom side, the base comprising:

an analyte sensor configured to generate a sensor signal indicative of an analyte concentration level of the host;

a battery;

a first plurality of contacts including a plurality of sensor contacts and a plurality of battery contacts; and

a cover configured to secure to the bottom side of the base and secure the battery to the base;

a sensor electronics module configured to releasably couple to the base, the sensor electronics module comprising:

a facing surface configured to face the top side of the base;

a second plurality of contacts on the facing surface and including a plurality of signal contacts and a plurality of power contacts, each of the plurality of signal contacts configured to make electrical contact with a respective one of the plurality of sensor contacts, and each of the plurality of power contacts configured to make electrical contact with a respective one of the plurality of battery contacts to provide power from the battery to the sensor electronics module; and

a wireless transceiver configured to transmit a wireless signal based at least in part on the sensor signal; and

a continuous sealing member configured to provide a seal between the facing surface and the base and around the plurality of signal contacts, the plurality of sensor contacts, the plurality of power contacts, and the plurality of battery contacts within a cavity when the sensor electronics module is releasably coupled to the base.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the base is disposable.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor electronics module is reusable.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the battery is configured to provide power to the analyte sensor and to the sensor electronics module.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sensor contacts comprises a first sensor contact and a second sensor contact, each of the first sensor contact and the second sensor contact configured to be electrically coupled to a respective terminal of the analyte sensor.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of battery contacts comprises a first battery contact and a second battery contact, each of the first battery contact and the second battery contact configured to be electrically coupled to a respective terminal of the battery.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of signal contacts are configured to receive the sensor signal via the plurality of sensor contacts.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the base further comprises a first retaining member and a second retaining member; and

the sensor electronics module further comprises a securement feature configured to mate with the first retaining member and a retention feature configured to mate with the second retaining member, thereby releasably coupling the sensor electronics module to the base.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second retaining member is frangible and configured to be separable from the base.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the securement feature comprises a protrusion or a toe, and the first retaining member comprises a recess, a ledge, a hook, or a slit.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the sensor electronics module is configured to be pivoted about the first retaining feature mated with the securement feature.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cover comprises a first plurality of conductive traces configured to couple the plurality of sensor contacts to the analyte sensor.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cover comprises a recess configured to receive the battery.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the base is configured to receive the battery within a cavity in the bottom side of the base.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cover is configured to secure to the bottom side of the base by snaps, adhesive, friction fittings, heat-staking, and/or laser, heat or ultra-sonic welding.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the base comprises a first plurality of conductive traces configured to couple the plurality of sensor contacts to the analyte sensor and the plurality of battery contacts to the battery.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the cover extends over the first plurality of conductive traces, thereby sealing the first plurality of conductive traces from moisture ingress.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cover extends over the battery, thereby sealing the battery from moisture ingress.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the base has a raised perimeter to guide the sensor electronics module into position during mechanical coupling of the sensor electronics module with the base.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the continuous sealing member is configured to be pressed between the facing surface and the base to provide the seal between the facing surface and the base.

21. The system of claim 1 , wherein the base comprises the continuous sealing member.

22. The system of claim 1 , wherein the continuous sealing member comprises an overmolded component.

23. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cavity is positioned between the facing surface and the base.

24. The system of claim 1 , wherein the continuous sealing member is configured to be positioned between the cover and the facing surface.
