APPARATUSES FOR CONTROLLING ELECTRICAL DEVICES AND SOFTWARE PROGRAMS AND METHODS FOR MAKING AND USING SAME
An apparatus including a movement sensor and processing unit, where sensed movement, especially velocity and/or acceleration and changes thereof, is used to control real and/or virtual objects, where no hard selection protocol is used and output signals and/or commands occur with a change in velocity or acceleration.
1 . A method implemented on an electronic device including at least one processor and at least one display device, at least one motion sensor, and optionally at least one input device, all in communication with the at least one processor, wherein the method comprises:
sensing, via the at least one motion sensor, a first motion having first motion properties;
in response to the first motion:
displaying, on the at least one display device via the processor, a plurality of objects or a menu or list of items; and
scrolling through the objects or items;
sensing, via the at least one motion sensor, a second motion having second motion properties evidencing a change in velocity, a change in acceleration, or any combination thereof;
in response to the sensed second motion:
simultaneously selecting one or more particular objects or items and performing an action associated with the one or more particular objects or items or performing a pre-defined action based on the change in velocity, the change in acceleration, or any combination thereof,
wherein:
if any one of the one or more particular objects or items is a sublist or submenu, then the action comprises scrolling through the items of the sublist or submenu, or
if any of the one or more particular objects or items is directly activatable, then the action comprises activating the particular object or item, or
if any of the one or more particular objects or items is an adjustable attribute, then the action comprises adjusting a value of the adjustable attribute, and the pre-defined action comprises simultaneously scrolling through a sublist or submenu of all of the one or more particular objects or items, activating all of the one or more particular objects or items, or simultaneously adjusting a value of the adjustable attribute associated with each of the one or more particular objects or items,
wherein the scrolling, selecting, and preforming an action are invoked without using a hard selection protocol.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first motion has a first direction and the second motion has a second direction are the same and a velocity and/or acceleration of the second motion are discernibly different from a velocity and/or acceleration of the first motion.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second motion is a continuation of the first motion.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first motion and second motion may include a hold, which is a change in velocity or acceleration.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the active sensing zone is a two-dimensional zone and/or a three-dimensional zone.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the items, object, subitems, or subobjects are virtual items or objects or correspond to real devices in communication with the at least one processor.
7 . A method implemented on an electronic device including at least one processor and at least one display device, at least one motion sensor, and optionally at least one input device, all in communication with the at least one processor, wherein the method comprises:
sensing, via at least one motion sensor, a first motion having first motion properties including a first direction, a first velocity, and a first acceleration;
in response to the first motion:
displaying, on at least one display device via a processor, a list of items, a menu of items, a plurality of objects, or any combination thereof; and
scrolling, via the processor, through the items and objects;
sensing, via at least one motion sensor, a second motion having second motion properties including a second direction, a second velocity, and a second acceleration evidencing a change in velocity, a change in acceleration, or any combination thereof; and
in response to the second motion:
(1) selecting one or more items or objects and activating the one or more items or objects, if the one or more items or objects are directly activatable, or
(2) selecting one or more items or objects and attribute adjusting the one or more items or objects, if the one or more items or objects are adjustable attributes, or
(3) selecting one or more items or objects and scrolling the one or more items or objects have multiple adjustable attributes or are sublists or a submenus,
wherein the scrolling, selecting, activating, and attribute adjusting are invoked without using a hard selection protocol.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the first motion has a first direction and the second motion has a second direction are the same and a velocity and/or acceleration of the second motion are discernibly different from a velocity and/or acceleration of the first motion.
9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the second motion is a continuation of the first motion.
10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the first motion and second motion may include a hold, which is a change in velocity or acceleration.
11 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising:
sensing, via at least one motion sensor, a further motion having properties including a further direction, a further velocity, and/or a further acceleration;
in response to the further motion:
(1) selecting one or more items or objects and activating the one or more items or objects, if the one or more items or objects are directly activatable, or
(2) selecting one or more items or objects and attribute adjusting the one or more items or objects, if the one or more items or objects are adjustable attributes, or
(3) selecting one or more items or objects and scrolling through the one or more items or objects have multiple adjustable attributes or are sublists or a submenus,
wherein the scrolling, selecting, activating, and attribute adjusting are invoked without using a hard selection protocol.
12 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the active sensing zone is a two-dimensional zone and/or a three-dimensional zone.
13 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the items, object, subitems, or subobjects are virtual items or objects or correspond to real devices in communication with the at least one processor.
14 . An apparatus comprising:
at least one processing unit, and
at least one motion sensing device, at least one display device, and optionally at least one input device, in communication with the at least one processing unit,
wherein the at least one processing unit is configured to:
receive, from the at least one motion sensing device, a first input comprising a first motion having first motion properties;
in response to the first input:
display a plurality of objects, a list of items, a menu of items, or a combination thereof, and
scroll through the objects, items, or any combination thereof;
receive, from the at least one motion sensing device, a second input comprising a second motion having second motion properties evidencing a change in velocity, a change in acceleration, or any combination thereof; and
in response to the second motion:
(1) select one or more items, objects, or combinations thereof and activate the one or more items, objects, or combination thereof, if the one or more items, objects, or combination thereof are directly activatable, or
(2) select one or more items, objects, or any combination thereof and adjust a value of an attribute associated with the one or more items, objects, or combination thereof, if the one or more items, objects, or combination thereof are adjustable attributes, or
(3) select one or more items, objects, or any combination thereof and scroll through the one or more items, objects, or any combination thereof if the objects or items have multiple adjustable attributes or are sublists or a submenus,
wherein the scrolling, selecting, activating, and attribute adjusting are invoked without using a hard selection protocol.
15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the first motion has a first direction and the second motion has a second direction are the same and a velocity and/or acceleration of the second motion are discernibly different from a velocity and/or acceleration of the first motion.
16 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the second motion is a continuation of the first motion.
17 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the first motion and second motion may include a hold, which is a change in velocity or acceleration.
18 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the at least one processing unit is configured to:
receive, via at least one motion sensor, a further motion having properties including a further direction, a further velocity, and/or a further acceleration;
in response to the further motion:
(1) selecting one or more items or objects and activating the one or more items or objects, if the one or more items or objects are directly activatable, or
(2) selecting one or more items or objects and attribute adjusting the one or more items or objects, if the one or more items or objects are adjustable attributes, or
(3) selecting one or more items or objects and scrolling through the one or more items or objects have multiple adjustable attributes or are sublists or a submenus,
wherein the scrolling, selecting, activating, and attribute adjusting are invoked without using a hard selection protocol.
19 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the active sensing zone is a two-dimensional zone and/or a three-dimensional zone.
20 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the items, object, subitems, or subobjects are virtual items or objects or correspond to real devices in communication with the at least one processor.
