Abstract

Systems and methods for secure control of a wireless mobile communication device are disclosed. Each of a plurality of domains includes at least one wireless mobile communication device asset. When a request to perform an operation affecting at least one of the assets is received, it is determined whether the request is permitted by the domain that includes the at least one affected asset, by determining whether the entity with which the request originated has a trust relationship with the domain, for example. The operation is completed where it is permitted by the domain. Wireless mobile communication device assets include software applications, persistent data, communication pipes, and configuration data, properties or user or subscriber profiles.

Claims (147)

1. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data, and the first domain comprises a corporate domain;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

2. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the second data comprises personal data, and the second domain comprises a personal domain;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

3. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data, and the second data comprises personal data;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the allowing is based on a policy.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first domain comprises a corporate domain, and the second domain comprises a personal domain.

6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the multiple domains comprise a third domain.

7. The method of claim 3 , wherein the multiple domains comprise a carrier domain.

8. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first data comprises data related to one or more contacts of an address book.

9. The method of claim 3 , wherein the organization is an employer of the user.

10. The method of claim 3 , wherein the organization is an employer of the user and the user of the wireless communication device is an owner of the wireless communication device.

11. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the user of the wireless communication device is an employee of the organization;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

12. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the user of the wireless communication device is an owner of the wireless communication device;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

13. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the organization is an owner of the wireless communication device;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

14. A method comprising:

storing first data in a first domain of a wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data related to one or more contacts of an address book;

storing second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allowing a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

providing the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

15. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data, and the first domain comprises a corporate domain; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

16. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the second data comprises personal data, and the second domain comprises a personal domain,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

17. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the user of the wireless communication device is an employee of the organization or an owner of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

18. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data, wherein the first domain comprises a corporate domain;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

19. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the second data comprises personal data, and wherein the second domain comprises a personal domain;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

20. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the user of the wireless communication device is an employee of the organization or an owner of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

21. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data related to one or more contacts of an address book;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

22. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data related to one or more calendar events;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

23. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data, and the second data comprises personal data,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

24. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the user of the wireless communication device is an owner of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

25. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device, wherein the organization is an owner of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

26. A wireless communication device comprising:

a memory configured to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data related to one or more contacts of an address book; and

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device,

wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

27. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device, wherein the first data comprises corporate data, and the second data comprises personal data, wherein the first domain is managed by an organization and the second domain is managed by a user of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.

28. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27 , wherein the allowing is based on a policy.

29. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising program code executable by a processor such that, when executed, causes a wireless communication device to:

store first data in a first domain of the wireless communication device;

store second data in a second domain of the wireless communication device;

wherein the organization is an owner of the wireless communication device;

allow a software application executing on the wireless communication device to provide a unified view of data across multiple domains, the data comprising the first data and the second data, and the multiple domains comprising the first domain and the second domain; and

provide the unified view of the data across the multiple domains.
