Abstract

A system for interacting with a portable device is provided. The system is configured to process both personal and premises events, and includes at least one processor configured to generate device data for determining the location of the portable device and process sensor data in response to an event. The processor is further configured to generate situational data for the processed event. The situational data is based on the sensor data and the device data. The situational data includes information indicative of whether the event is an alarm event and if the event is the alarm event, whether the alarm event is one of a personal event and premises event. The processor is further configured to provide at least a portion of the situational data to the remote service site if the event is the alarm event and determine that confirmation has been received.

Claims (45)

1. A method of facilitating communication between a portable user device and a remote service site, the method comprising:

maintaining a user profile for a user of the portable user device, the user profile containing at least one of monitoring on demand data and response on demand data indicative of at least one action to be taken for each of a plurality of alarm events;

processing sensor data in response to an event;

generating situational data for the event, the situational data being based on the sensor data and device data, the situational data including information indicative of whether the event is an alarm event; and

if the event is an alarm event:

determining if the user profile contains at least one of monitoring on demand data and response on demand data for the alarm event;

if the user profile contains monitoring on demand data for the alarm event, placing the portable user device into a monitoring on demand mode; and

if the user profile contains response on demand data for the alarm event, placing the portable user device into a response on demand mode.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to the portable user device entering the monitoring on demand mode, generating additional situational data regarding characteristics of an environment proximate the portable user device.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to the portable user device entering the monitoring on demand mode, prompting at least one of a microphone and a camera of the portable user device to begin recording.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, when the portable user device is in the response on demand mode, automatically establishing a connection between the portable user device and a first responder.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising, when the portable user device is in the response on demand mode, pushing first responder information to the portable user device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, when the portable user device is in the response on demand mode, automatically establishing a connection between the portable user device and the remote service site.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, when the portable user device is in the monitoring on demand mode, automatically establishing a connection between the portable user device and the remote service site.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising generating a notice for the user indicating that the user is being connected to the remote service center.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, when the portable user device is the in monitoring on demand mode, prompting a user to enter a note regarding the alarm event.

10. A portable user device comprising:

a communicator configured to:

receive sensor data from at least one sensor; and

communicate with at least a remote service site; and

a processor configured to:

maintain a user profile for a user of the portable user device, the user profile containing at least one of monitoring on demand data and response on demand data indicative of at least one action to be taken for each of a plurality of alarm events;

process the sensor data in response to an event;

generate situational data for the event, the situational data being based at least on device data and the sensor data, the situational data including information indicative of whether the event is an alarm event; and

if the event is an alarm event:

determine if the user profile contains at least one of monitoring on demand data and response on demand data for the alarm event;

if the user profile indicates monitoring on demand data for the alarm event, place the portable user device into a monitoring on demand mode; and

if the user profile indicates response on demand data for the alarm event, place the portable user device into a response on demand mode.

11. The portable user device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to, in response to the portable user device entering the monitoring on demand mode, generate additional situational data regarding characteristics of an environment proximate the portable user device.

12. The portable user device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to, in response to the portable user device entering the monitoring on demand mode, prompt at least one of a microphone and camera of the portable user device to begin recording.

13. The portable user device of claim 10 , wherein the communicator is further configured to, when the portable user device is in the response on demand mode, automatically establish a connection between the portable user device and a first responder.

14. The portable user device of claim 13 , wherein the communicator is further configured to, when the portable user device is in the response on demand mode, receive first responder information pushed to the portable user device.

15. The portable user device of claim 14 , wherein the portable user device is further configured to display the first responder information on a user interface of the portable user device.

16. The portable user device of claim 10 , wherein the communicator is further configured to, when the portable user device is in the response on demand mode, automatically establish a connection between the portable user device and the remote service site.

17. The portable user device of claim 10 , wherein the communicator is further configured to, when the portable user device is in the monitoring on demand mode, automatically establish a connection between the portable user device and the remote service site.

18. The portable user device of claim 17 , wherein the communicator is further configured to receive a notice for the user indicating that the user is being connected to the remote service center.

19. The portable user device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to prompt a user to enter a note regarding the alarm event.

20. A method of facilitating communication between a portable user device and a remote service site, the method comprising:

maintaining a user profile for a user of the portable user device, the user profile containing at least one of monitoring on demand data and response on demand data indicative of at least one action to be taken for each of a plurality of alarm events;

processing sensor data in response to an event;

determining whether the event is an alarm event; and

if the event is an alarm event:

determining if the user profile contains at least one of monitoring on demand data and response on demand data for the alarm event;

if the user profile contains monitoring on demand data for the alarm event, placing the portable user device into a monitoring on demand mode; and

if the user profile contains response on demand data for the alarm event, placing the portable user device into a response on demand mode.
