Abstract

Exemplary embodiments relate to improvements in the design of a messaging inbox. The inbox may display different units or “modules” for providing a user with quick access to different inbox functionalities. Examples of modules include modules for sharing articles, videos, or pictures (e.g., from a social networking service associated with the messaging service). Content recommendations may be provided, and a user may provide a list of users with whom they would like to share the content. The content recommendations may be retrieved from a social network based on consumption information, or may come from multiple different locations. Content may be ranked based on recency, likelihood of user enjoyment, an amount time spent watching the content, etc. A group of recommended recipients may be provided, for example based on the users considered to be most likely to enjoy the content.

display, in a first portion of an inbox interface for an inbox of a messaging application, a first set of messages;

display, in a second portion of the same inbox interface as displays the first portion, one or more modules providing access to features of the messaging service different from message or message thread presentation features; and

display, in a third portion of the inbox interface that appears after the first and second portions in a direction of scrolling of the inbox interface, a second set of messages comprising remaining messages in the inbox not displayed in the first portion;

present a content sharing module in the second portion of the inbox interface, the content sharing module configured to allow sharing of content items by a user of the messaging application;

display, in the content sharing module, one or more content items;

receive a user selection of one or more of the displayed content items;

display, in the messaging interface, a recipient interface for selecting recipients with whom to share the one or more selected content items;

receive a selection of one or more users in the recipient interface; and

share the content item with the one or more selected users through the messaging service.

9. The system of claim 8 , the software further configured to cause the system to:

display, in a first portion of the inbox interface, a first set of messages;

display, in a second portion of the inbox interface, one or more modules providing access

to features of the messaging service different from the message or message thread presentation features; and

display, in a third portion of the inbox interface, a second set of messages comprising

remaining messages in the inbox not displayed in the first portion;

wherein the content sharing module is displayed in the second portion of the inbox interface.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein the content sharing module is configured to display the one or more content items selected from one or more of a local store or a social network.

11. The system of claim 8 , the software further configured to cause the system to:

receive a horizontal gesture from the user on the plurality of content items displayed in

the content sharing module; and

scroll the plurality of content items in the direction of the horizontal gesture.

12. The system of claim 8 , the software further configured to cause the system to:

select one or more potential recipients for display in the recipient interface;

wherein at least some of the potential recipients are selected from contacts of the user

with whom the user has recently shared content items.

13. The system of claim 8 , the software further configured to cause the system to:

display, in the content sharing module, a text entry portion allowing the user to enter

explanatory text regarding the one or more selected content items;

receive the explanatory text from the text entry portion; and

including the explanatory text with the selected content items to be shared.

14. The system of claim 8 , the software further configured to cause the system to:

16. The medium of claim 15 , storing further instructions that cause the system to:

display, in a first portion of the inbox interface, a first set of messages;

display, in a second portion of the inbox interface, one or more modules providing access

to features of the messaging service different from the message or message thread presentation features; and

display, in a third portion of the inbox interface, a second set of messages comprising

remaining messages in the inbox not displayed in the first portion;

wherein the content sharing module is displayed in the second portion of the inbox

interface.

17. The medium of claim 15 wherein the content sharing module is configured to display the one or more content items selected from one or more of a local store or a social network.

18. The medium of claim 15 , storing further instructions that cause the system to:

receive a horizontal gesture from the user on the plurality of content items displayed in

the content sharing module; and

scroll the plurality of content items in the direction of the horizontal gesture.

19. The medium of claim 15 , storing further instructions that cause the system to:

select one or more potential recipients for display in the recipient interface;

wherein at least some of the potential recipients are selected from contacts of the user

with whom the user has recently shared content items.
