Abstract

Systems and methods change a user interface for the purpose of pairing a shipping container with an item that is intended to be shipped in the shipping container. Example embodiments include a machine-implemented method for accessing a shipping request, detecting a radio signal from a candidate container using a radio receiver, detecting an impact between a pairing device and a query container using an accelerometer, determining that the query container is the candidate container, and generating a shipping record that correlates the shipping container and the item. The device can further determine that the query container is the candidate container based on the signal strength and change in signal strength of one or more signals. The device can further detect an impact between the pairing device and the query container by ranking one or more sets of acceleration data collected by the accelerometer.

Claims (36)

1. A method for selecting a candidate container comprising:

accessing, by one or more processors of a device, a shipping request to ship an item having a set of dimensions, the shipping request including a shipping identifier of the item, the shipping request being accessed from a server;

responsive to accessing the shipping request, detecting a radio signal generated by a signal chip in a query container at a first time, the radio signal including a set of candidate dimensions associated with the query container;

in response to detecting the radio signal:

comparing the set of candidate dimensions in the radio signal with the set of dimensions of the item; and

determining that the set of candidate dimensions in the radio signal satisfy the set of dimensions of the item;

detecting, by an accelerometer of the device, an impact between the device and the query container at a second time, where detecting the impact includes comparing a threshold deceleration value with acceleration data generated by the accelerometer;

determining a difference between the first time and the second time;

determining that the query container is the candidate container based on the difference between the first time and the second time; and

in response to determining that the query container is the candidate container, generating a shipping record that correlates the shipping identifier of the item with the candidate container.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising storing, on the device, the set of dimensions of the item.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the shipping record is generated in response to determining that the set of candidate dimensions of the candidate container satisfy the set of dimensions of the item.

4. A system for selecting a candidate container comprising:

one or more processors of a machine;

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

accessing a shipping request to ship an item having a set of dimensions, the shipping request including a shipping identifier of the item, the shipping request being accessed from a server;

responsive to accessing the shipping request, detecting a radio signal generated by a signal chip in a query container at a first time, the radio signal including a set of candidate dimensions associated with the query container;

in response to detecting the radio signal:

comparing the set of candidate dimensions in the radio signal with the set of dimensions of the item; and

determining that the set of candidate dimensions in the radio signal satisfy the set of dimensions of the item;

detecting, by an accelerometer a device, an impact between the device and the query container at a second time, where detecting the impact includes comparing a threshold deceleration value with acceleration data generated by the accelerometer;

determining a difference between the first time and the second time;

determining that the query container is the candidate container based on the difference between the first time and the second time; and

in response to determining that the query container is the candidate container, generating a shipping record that correlates the shipping identifier of the item with the candidate container.

5. The system of claim 4 , the operations further comprising storing the set of dimensions of the item.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the shipping record is generated in response to determining that the set of candidate dimensions of the candidate container satisfy the set of dimensions of the item.

7. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

accessing a shipping request to ship an item having a set of dimensions, the shipping request including a shipping identifier of the item, the shipping request being accessed from a server;

responsive to accessing the shipping request, detecting a radio signal generated by a signal chip in a query container at a first time, the radio signal including a set of candidate dimensions associated with the query container;

in response to detecting the radio signal:

comparing the set of candidate dimensions in the radio signal with the set of dimensions of the item; and

determining that the set of candidate dimensions in the radio signal satisfy the set of dimensions of the item;

detecting, by an accelerometer of a device, an impact between the device and the query container at a second time, where detecting the impact includes comparing a threshold deceleration value with acceleration data generated by the accelerometer;

determining a difference between the first time and the second time;

determining that the query container is the candidate container based on the difference between the first time and the second time; and

in response to determining that the query container is the candidate container, generating a shipping record that correlates the shipping identifier of the item with the candidate container.
