Abstract

A navigation system for a host vehicle is provided. The system may comprise at least one processing device programmed to receive, from a camera, a plurality of images representative of an environment of the host vehicle; analyze the plurality of images to identify at least one target vehicle in the environment of the host vehicle; analyze the plurality of images to identify at least one adverse characteristic of the target vehicle relative to the host vehicle; and cause at least one navigational change of the host vehicle to initiate a pass of the target vehicle after identifying the at least one characteristic of the target vehicle.

Claims (39)

21 . A navigation system for a host vehicle, the system comprising:

at least one processing device programmed to:

receive, from a camera, a plurality of images representative of an environment of the host vehicle;

analyze the plurality of images to identify at least one target vehicle in the environment of the host vehicle;

analyze the plurality of images to identify at least one adverse characteristic of the target vehicle relative to the host vehicle; and

cause at least one navigational change of the host vehicle to initiate a pass of the target vehicle after identifying the at least one characteristic of the target vehicle.

22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the at least one navigational change is caused by adjustment of a navigational actuator of the host vehicle.

23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the navigational actuator includes at least one of a steering mechanism, a brake, or an accelerator.

24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the at least one navigational change of the host vehicle is caused at least in part by an input from an occupant of the host vehicle.

25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the input from the occupant of the host vehicle is provided via a voice command.

26 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the input from the occupant of the host vehicle is provided via a user interface including at least one of a button, a touchscreen, or a gesture recognition system.

27 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the processing device is configured, based on the input from the occupant of the host vehicle, to make a navigational change similar to the at least one navigational change, at a later time, in response to an identification of the at least one characteristic at the later time.

28 . The system of claim 24 , wherein in response to the input from the occupant the processor determines one or more spatial targets along with a temporal specification for navigating the vehicle to each of the one or more spatial targets.

29 . The system of claim 24 , wherein in response to the input from the occupant the processor determines one or more spatial targets, and wherein the processor is configured to provide a set of control commands for navigating the vehicle to a selected spatial target within a selected timeframe.

30 . The system of claim 24 , wherein in response to the input from the occupant the processor is configured to invoke a machine learning policy module which determines a set of actions for the vehicle to initiate and complete the pass.

31 . The system of claim 24 , wherein in response to the input from the occupant the processor determines whether there is a safe pass maneuver.

32 . The system of claim 24 , wherein in response to the input from the occupant the process is configured to determine whether there is available a pass maneuver that will not cause an accident of the vehicle fault.

33 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the identified characteristic of the target vehicle indicates a vehicle dimension, and wherein the at least one navigational change is based at least in part upon the vehicle dimension exceeding a threshold.

34 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the identified characteristic of the target vehicle indicates a vehicle type, and wherein the at least one navigational change is based at least in part upon the vehicle type.

35 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the vehicle type indicates the target vehicle is one of a construction vehicle and an agricultural vehicle.

36 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the identified characteristic of the target vehicle indicates an unsecured object associated with the target vehicle, and wherein the at least one navigational change is based at least in part upon the indication of the unsecured object.

37 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the unsecured object comprises flapping fabric.

38 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the unsecured object comprises one or more of an open door and an unlocked door.

39 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive, from a particle detector, an indication of particulate matter emitted by the target vehicle, and wherein the at least one navigational change is based at least in part upon the indication of particulate matter.

40 . A method of navigation for a host vehicle, the method comprising the following steps performed by at least one processing device:

receiving, from a camera, a plurality of images representative of an environment of the host vehicle;

analyzing the plurality of images to identify at least one target vehicle in the environment of the host vehicle;

analyzing the plurality of images to identify at least one characteristic of the target vehicle; and

causing at least one navigational change of the host vehicle to initiate a pass of the target vehicle after identifying the at least one characteristic of the target vehicle.

41 . An autonomous vehicle, comprising:

a body;

at least one image capture device configured to acquire at least one image representative of an environment of the vehicle;

at least one processor programmed to:

receive, from a camera, a plurality of images representative of an environment of the host vehicle;

analyze the plurality of images to identify at least one target vehicle in the environment of the host vehicle;

analyze the plurality of images to identify at least one characteristic of the target vehicle; and

cause at least one navigational change of the host vehicle to initiate a pass of the target vehicle after identifying the at least one characteristic of the target vehicle.

42 .- 81 . (canceled)
