Abstract

Dynamically identifying and utilizing an opportunistic device by performing at least the following within a discovery offloading module: receive an offloading alert message from a service device, wherein the offloading alert message indicates the service device is unable to provide one or more services to the client device, receive a discovery message from a candidate device, wherein the discovery message indicates the candidate device is capable of performing the services provided to the client device, select, using the dedicated execution environment, an opportunistic service device based on the discovery message from the candidate device; and trigger the restart of host execution instruction within the client device by obtaining the one or more services from the opportunistic service device, wherein the discovery offloading module operates independently from the host execution instructions within the client device.

Claims (32)

1. An apparatus comprising:

memory including instructions; and

at least one processor to execute the instructions to:

in response to detection of a malware threat, enter into an auto-diagnostic mode and initiate a first message in a dedicated execution environment to trigger discovery of a candidate device to replace a service device to provide a service within a trusted network group, wherein the trusted network group is an enhanced privacy identifier (EPID) group and the dedicated execution environment is isolated from host execution instructions of the service device;

in response to receipt of a second message from the candidate device, authenticate, in the dedicated execution environment, that the second message originates from the candidate device in the trusted network group;

select, based on an evaluation of the candidate device with respect to the service using the second message, the candidate device to replace the service device to provide the service; and

establish a connection with the candidate device to provide the service.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is to halt the service in response to the detection of the malware threat and is to restart the service in response to the selection of the candidate device.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the EPID group includes mobile devices in a cellular network.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the malware threat includes a denial of service attack.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first message includes a pointer to information regarding the service.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first message is to trigger a service evaluation at the candidate device with respect to providing the service.

7. A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to at least:

in response to detection of a malware threat, enter into an auto-diagnostic mode and initiate a first message in a dedicated execution environment to trigger discovery of a candidate device to replace a service device to provide a service within a trusted network group, wherein the trusted network group is an enhanced privacy identifier (EPID) group and the dedicated execution environment is isolated from host execution instructions of the service device;

in response to receipt of a second message from the candidate device, authenticate, in the dedicated execution environment, that the second message originates from the candidate device in the trusted network group;

select, based on an evaluation of the candidate device with respect to the service using the second message, the candidate device to replace the service device to provide the service; and

establish a connection with the candidate device to provide the service.

8. The machine readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to halt the service in response to the detection of the malware threat and to restart the service in response to the selection of the candidate device.

9. The machine readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the malware threat includes a denial of service attack, and wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to, in response to detection of the malware threat, enter an auto-diagnostic mode.

10. The machine readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the first message includes a pointer to information regarding the service, and wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to generate the first message and process the second message in a dedicated execution environment.

11. A method comprising:

in response to detection of a malware threat, enter into an auto-diagnostic mode and initiate a first message in a dedicated execution environment to trigger discovery of a candidate device to replace a service device to provide a service within a trusted network group, wherein the trusted network group is an enhanced privacy identifier (EPID) group and the dedicated execution environment is isolated from host execution instructions of the service device;

in response to receipt of a second message from the candidate device, authenticate, in the dedicated execution environment, that the second message originates from the candidate device in the trusted network group;

selecting, by executing an instruction with at least one processor based on an evaluation of the candidate device with respect to the service using the second message, the candidate device to replace the service device to provide the service; and

establishing, by executing an instruction with the at least one processor, a connection with the candidate device to provide the service.

12. The method of claim 11 , further including:

halting the service in response to the detection of the malware threat; and

restarting the service in response to the selection of the candidate device.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the malware threat includes a denial of service attack, and further including, in response to detection of the malware threat, entering an auto-diagnostic mode.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the first message includes a pointer to information regarding the service, and further including generating the first message and processing the second message in a dedicated execution environment.

15. The method of claim 11 , further including triggering, using the first message, a service evaluation at the candidate device with respect to providing the service.

16. The method of claim 11 , further including advertising the first message using one or more designated communication channels.
